What is a “Divine Timeline”?

The other day, I was chatting with one of my friends, someone who struggles with her out-of-control “control issues.” Even though she recognizes when she’s doing it, she can’t control her need to control others.
Trying to be appropriate by controlling my out-of-control smile, it leaked out.
I reminded her that the need to control life is one of those universal issues. In other words, we’ve all got ‘em to some degree. Although it may look different for each person, showing up in subtle or blatant ways, we are all afflicted with that ‘dis-ease.’
Even if we won’t admit it. Especially if we won’t admit it.
She went on to share an exciting breakthrough she had about her ongoing need to control her boyfriend. She explained that she woke up one morning and unexpectedly decided to “surrender,” to just allow him to be who he is.
This was huge, and I celebrated her wildly!
After our call, I started thinking about the vast difference between letting go, giving up, and surrendering.
Letting go is often a futile attempt to prove how wise we are by announcing our intent to let-go-and-let-God. Does stating that cliché really work? Usually not, at least for me.
Giving up results from feeling utterly hopeless and doomed to a powerless future of misery. It’s usually accompanied by loud, victim-sighing.
What Is Surrendering?
Surrendering is neither of those.
Surrendering happens from ceasing resistance, but from an authentic place. Not by faking it or thinking you should. Rather, it’s reaching the point where you absolutely know you are okay with or without whatever you are asking for and trusting that if it never happens, you will eventually understand why, no matter how long it takes.
Envision it like this: You’re on the top of a mountain looking down at yourself hiking a challenging, twisty path. On one sharp turn, you’re suddenly blocked by a huge boulder that prevents you from taking that next curve.
Your top-of-the-mountain vantage point lets you see that the boulder saved you from meeting a hungry lion head-on.
The problem is, we rarely have that top-of-the-mountain vantage point. So, we struggle, try to push the boulder off the path, attempt to climb over it, and wave for a helicopter to rescue us, all to no avail. Ah, if only we could shift our view, it would all make sense.
Surrendering is trusting that the boulder is there for a reason. That eventually, you will know how Perfect surrendering was in ways you have no clue about yet. Even if it doesn’t make sense at the moment, you trust what will unfold.
Surrendering is not easy until it is. It means stepping out of your comfort zone, the place that feels secure, and trusting the Bigger Picture at play. It takes a while (sometimes lifetimes) to see and understand that Bigger Picture, but it always shows up. Compare it to seeing the first episode of a TV series and not understanding the plot until episode four. Or ten. Or the very last one.
Surrender is difficult when you’re stuck in your ego, the part of you that’s dictating lots of “shoulds.” But the more you trust what your Higher Consciousness is intending, the lessons and the awakenings, the more magic and miracles manifest. And life flows a heck of a lot easier.
That Pesky Divine Timeline
This leads me to talk about the “Divine Timeline.”
Admittedly, most of my students grimace (some hiss some strong “f-words”) every time I talk about it. I get it.
We try to do something, accomplish something, change something, be something, and no matter how hard we struggle, do all the right things, diligently do the inner work, and appeal to the Universe, nothing happens.
Been there, done that.
However, looking back, it all makes sense.
Like that guy, I desperately wanted to marry, only to discover it would have been disastrous. Or that move out of state, I anxiously wanted to make that would have stopped me from teaching my Perfect Life Awakening program. I could go on and on.
Divine Timeline has your back. Its presence prevents you from doing certain things or making certain changes because it has the bigger picture vantage point of your life. It sees what you are here to do, understands what you are here to clean up, and makes sure you wait for the “right” people to arrive in your life before you do something.
The divine mind knows why certain things should…Just…Not. Happen!
You chose your current lifetime knowing all that, knowing what you are here to accomplish, when, and how. You brought certain issues to address, karma to balance out, and people to perform in your cast of characters.
It’s all chosen for your evolutionary process, from fear to love.
The Divine Timeline is what’s constantly trying to align everything in your life so that events that are supposed to happen can. It leads you into a relationship you never would have chosen, one that ends up being your perfect partner. Its flow pushes you into a career you never would have thought you could have done, only to discover your greatest denied skill. The divine eliminates certain people you are done learning from so you can move on to others with more lessons or other things to clean up with.
My own life has been an ongoing research project learning to trust (and honor) the Divine Timeline. I’ve undergone huge personal transitions that never made logical sense but led me toward my Highest Purpose and my soul’s truth.
Everything that happened was completely different from what my lowly human perspective thought was best. But it all makes perfect sense now.
Those Bumps
Trusting in Divine Timing is challenging because uncertainty is never comfortable for us. As a human, those hardships, losses, and roadblocks on the path to something Bigger create stress, conflict, and dread.
But after enough experiences, it gets easier to lean into trust, release judgment about what you’re experiencing, and hold on tightly to what the Universe has in store for you beyond that boulder.
Then, external circumstances (AKA struggles) become meaningless and don’t impact your actions. In fact, they can make you feel more certain that your path is the Right one.
Most importantly, you trust whatever the outcome is. You see it as a mirror that helps you go deeper to discover more about yourself, your limiting beliefs, your fears, your lack of “deservingness,” and hidden denial.
Stay Aligned
In the middle of your struggle, remember that you are aligned with your higher consciousness. Feelings of doubt and confusion are often a sign that you have disconnected in some way.
Perhaps you ignored an inner, intuitive knowing. Maybe you chalked off signs and synchronicities as “coincidences” or “accidents.” Did validations slip by without grabbing them?
Tell the truth: What is your real intention? What are you really trying to attain? Are you trying to impress your friends? Get attention or approval? Make a statement to someone in your life. To feed your ego in some way? Or to feel safe and secure? Maybe to prove you are smart, talented, capable, and lovable? To get revenge of some kind?
If your motives are coming from anything other than love, what you are striving toward will stay stuck in the muck.
By simply changing your intention from fear to love, things can shift. When your desire is from a selfless place, purely assisting others, the Universe offers support. When you strive for peace, love, and joy, the details fall into place at the exact Perfect Time.
Having the intention to stay connected to where your soul is leading, rather than your ego’s demands, letting go of control and easing into surrender is a piece of cake.
And remember: Often, when it looks like nothing is ever going to change, it is when something is just about ready to happen, like a big life transformation around the corner.
