When a Missed Flight Becomes a Wake-Up Call ⋆ Ann Perry Numerologist

Recently, I had one of those humbling experiences that took me  right back to an old wound. While in Calgary, I thought our flight was at 2:15pm. Turns out, the plane had already left without us. Cue panic, disbelief—and a flood of old memories.

You see, 46 years ago I was a travel agent. I once booked someone to St. John’s, Newfoundland when they actually wanted to go to Saint John, New Brunswick. Sheesh. It’s only 1100 miles further and who doesn’t love an island adventure?

Six months into that shiny new career, I was fired. My then-husband’s only comment? “I always knew being a travel agent wasn’t a good fit for you.” Ouch. His words only deepened my shame. I was devastated. I felt stupid and felt like such a failure.

Standing at that Calgary airport, the same feelings of failure came rushing back. And to add insult to injury, WestJet offered no credit for the $1600 I’d paid—another $1800 was needed to get us home.

But here’s the difference: my husband Serge simply said, “Don’t beat yourself up. Everyone makes mistakes.” His kindness lifted me. And that’s when I realized—how we choose to respond to each other in challenging times matters far more than the mistake itself.
(My aplogies to anyone who may have witnessed my airport meltdown. I acknowledge it wasn’t pretty.)

The Numerology Lesson

We’re in a 9 Universal Year—all about release and completion. The 9 energy has a way of pressing on old bruises so we can see what’s still tender. Missing that flight wasn’t really about airports or money—it brought an old wound of “not being good enough” to the surface so I could finally heal it and let it go. Can you relate?

And maybe that’s true for all of us: life isn’t punishment. Sometimes it’s protection. We don’t see the whole picture, only one corner of the puzzle. That’s why trust matters. Life isn’t happening to us—it’s happening for us and through us. It’s time to surrender to the Divine unknown plan.

And you know what? My original direct flight back to Halifax would only have given me one bag of stale pretzels. My new flight had a stopover that afforded me TWO bags! Win win!

Affirmation for the week:“I release the old stories of failure and welcome compassion, trust, and grace into my life.”

P.S. Want help spotting the baggage you’re still carrying? (Pun intended!)
