Choosing A House To Enhance Your Career by Kartar Diamond

Within the scope of classical Feng Shui, there are several ways to use feng shui principles to find or build a house which supports your career. This article will highlight five key ways, in no particular order, in which we approach this topic.

Birth Year

In one School of Feng Shui, the Ba Zhai (Eight House) method, everyone is categorized as an East Group or West Group person, based on year of birth.  We also define house types as East or West Group, based on the sitting (back) direction. A house that faces northwest, will “sit” Southeast, for example. That house is then called a Southeast (Xun) House.  It’s predictable that East Group people will do better in the East Group houses and West Group people will do better in the West Group Houses.

The East Group house types “sit” to East, Southeast, North or South.

The West Group house types “sit” to West, Northwest, Southwest or Northeast.

Within the East and West Group people, there are Eight types, all associated with a Trigram and each having their own personal “wealth” direction.  For example, one East Group person is the Zhen trigram and their personal wealth direction is South.  So, if any of the East Group house types support that Zhen person, it is specifically the South sitting Li House which is even better for them, for career luck.  For another East Group person, the Xun trigram, their major Wealth Luck direction is North.  This is the case with all eight trigrams: that we can fine tune the absolute best orientation of house, above and beyond just the broad East Group or West Group categories.

Sitting Trigram

Along similar lines, that the “sitting” (back) side of the house establishes the real strength and character of the house, each trigram is related to an array of images, an element, and different careers on a subtle level.   This is something I elaborate on in my ebook, Feng Shui Tips for Businesses, as this can be applied to a commercial property as well.

For your own home, the sitting sector can boost your career if it matches the element most closely related to your career.  For example, if you were in the shipping industry, water is the element and a Kan House (sitting North) could enhance your career luck.  If you are a writer, that is symbolic of the wood element (paper). The Wood House types are those which sit East or Southeast.  If you work in real estate, you may do better in an house that draws energy from the earth directions like sitting Southwest (Kun) House or the Northeast (Gen) House.

Another way to match the person with the place is by choosing a house where the sitting direction is the same as the occupant’s personal lucky money direction. We call it the Lu Cun (loo choon) direction.  For example, a person born in the year Tiger: their Lucky Money Direction is the Pig direction of NW3. This is between 325-335 degrees. If a house sits (back) to that direction, it can be especially lucky for the Tiger person.  Each of us have a Lucky Money Direction.  And it should be noted that when we do compass readings, we refer to MAGNETIC North and not True North.  For instance, currently in Southern California, magnetic North is 11 degrees east of True North. It’s important to take accurate compass readings and to also work with an accurately drawn floor plan.

Hidden Potential of the Center Stars

In the school of Feng Shui called Flying Star (Xuan Kong Fei Xing), calculations are derived based on when a house was built and in combination with its compass orientation.  An unseen magnetic field in the house is then described in numerical coding. The numbers are called “stars” and there is a pairing of stars for the “center palace” or the geometric center of a floor plan.  These unseen energies represent the hidden potential of the home, its personality and agenda. This can have a big influence on someone’s career.

In my book, The Feng Shui Matrix, I have a whole chapter devoted to the 81 different center star pairings and what they mean.    For example, some houses have energy in the center cell which implies potential for legal problems.  This can be fine and actually supportive for a lawyer or judge.  Other house types have energy in the center associated with creativity and the arts. These house types support entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, actors, and people in the health and wellness industries. Each house’s center can enhance or undermine a variety of careers.

Additionally, with the Flying Star School, we look at important areas of a house and note the unseen flying stars in those areas where one dwells the most, such as the bedroom, a home office or even an entrance- which is the portal or gateway between the outside and inside worlds we live in.  The flying stars which reside in those important areas can also cater to certain careers.  For example, the 6 star is related to the government, military, self-defense, and the law.  A politician or martial arts master could do well in a house where that energy was prominent.  The 7 star is related to sex, beauty, seduction, and a charming voice. Sleeping in the 7 star energy could be great for an actress, a singer, or podcast personality!

For those who have the luxury of building their own home, these features are addressed in the design phase or even in the selection of raw land first. For others, house hunting services are available where each prospective home can be evaluated for how much it may support a person’s existing career or career change goals. There may even be a way to cater to more than one occupation when there is more than one working member of the family.
