A new year always brings a significant shift in energy. Some people feel it straight away, for some it takes a bit longer. But our homes feel it too and absorb these new energies. This is why it is important to update your Feng Shui every year, at the beginning of the year. Just like you update your calendar. Updating your Feng Shui does not necessarily mean making huge changes – even small changes can have a huge impact, and this all depends on the layout of your home and your family constellation. When you adjust your Feng Shui at the beginning of the year, you are strengthening the auspicious sectors and calming those that carry negative energy and dangers – creating a smoother journey through the year.
When analysing the chart, remember that the stars affect you most when:

- Your main entrance faces the direction (e.g. the No 5 Misfortune Star affects you in 2026 if your main entrance is facing SOUTH).
- Your main entrance is located in the sector (e.g. the No 5 Star affects you if your main entrance is located IN the SOUTH).
- Your bedroom is located in the sector (see No 2.) because you do spend a lot of time in your bedroom and when you sleep, your body is more susceptible to the energies.
- The star visits the location of your zodiac animal. For example, people born in the Year of the Horse are particularly prone to suffering misfortune this year because the Horse lives in the SOUTH, which is home to the No 5 Star in 2026.
First, you want to CONTROL THE AFFLICTION STARS
The ILLNESS STAR No 2 flies into the NW
The No 2 Star brings illness and bad health and can cause lack of energy, fatigue and susceptibility to stress, as well as increased danger of accidents and injuries, and is not a star to be ignored. Avoid spending too much time here.
This particularly affects the patriarch, people in leading positions, and those who spend a lot of time here (e.g. if your bedroom is in the NW). People born in the Years of the Dog or Boar are also directly affected and more vulnerable to illness and fatigue.
Elderly people and anyone who is already suffering from ill health or battling chronic health issues are advised not to have their bedroom in the NW sector of the house this year and keep a metal Wu Lou or a Medicine Buddha Plaque nearby for protection.
Generally, it is recommended to display a 9 Prosperity Wu Lou in the NW of your home (or office) to suppress the No 2 Star.
The QUARRELSOME No 3 STAR flies into the WEST
This hostile star brings quarrelsome energy, causing arguments and misunderstandings and creates disharmony in your family and all your relationships. It can also cause aggravations of a mental kind and conflicts can escalate to legal problems and lawsuits. Sometimes, the effect of the No 3 Star can be worse than the dreaded No 5 Star, as it can turn violent very quickly, be it at work or in your private life, and ruin your reputation.
The youngest daughter and people born in the Year of the Rooster are directly afflicted by this and could become quite rebellious this year. To help them stay calm and protect them from other people’s anger, they are advised to carry a Tai Kat Tai Ley Apple amulet or a Ksiddigarbha Fireball amulet.
It is best to keep the WEST sector quiet and avoid loud activities here.
To calm the aggressive energy, you can add fire elements to your WEST in the form of red accessories. For example, if your living room is in the WEST of your house, you could use red sofa cushions or a red rug. Red artwork is also a great option.
Placing harmony symbols or Feng Shui cures is also useful, e.g. the Peace Hanging with Red Tassel or a Tai Kat Tai Ley Apple Enhancer.
The 5 YELLOW MISFORTUNE STAR flies into the SOUTH
This is a very dangerous star and a most serious affliction, bringing great harm and misfortune of all kinds, including relationship problems and troubles at work. Please be aware that the No 5 Star is very strong this year as it gets fuelled by the fire energy of the SOUTH.
SOUTH-facing houses will therefore need strong protection, as well as people born in the Year of the Horse and the middle daughter, as they are directly afflicted.
It is important to keep this area as quiet as possible; do not carry out any renovations, drilling, no knocking or breaking walls in the SOUTH sector this year. Using cures will help you minimise whatever misfortune comes your way. This is very important in 2026.
To subdue these harmful energies, you can display a Heart Sutra Pagoda in your SOUTH room. If you belong to the persons mentioned above, or your bedroom or main door is in the SOUTH, you should also carry the amulet version. Please take special care in the months of March, July, September and December, when the chi in this sector becomes particularly dangerous.
TAI SUI
The TAI SUI or God of the Year (also known as the Grand Duke Jupiter) also resides in the SOUTH in 2026. The Tai Sui takes charge of all matters related to earth and mankind during the year. He brings misfortune to anyone who confronts or disturbs him, this means there should be no noise and no renovations in the SOUTH this year. To appease the Tai Sui, display a Tai Sui Plaque 2026 here.
Another important thing to remember is to never sit facing the Tai Sui, even if SOUTH is one of your good directions. People born in the Years of the Horse, Rat, Rabbit and Rooster ought to be very careful, as well as those living in SOUTH-facing houses or staying in SOUTH bedrooms. It will be very easy to inadvertently anger the Tai Sui, so it is suggested carrying a Tai Sui card or amulet to gain his support.
The BURGLARY & LOSS STAR No 7 flies into the SW
The No 7 Burglary & Loss Star is another very strong star this year. As the name suggests, it brings burglary, break-ins, theft and violence, but also financial losses and danger of accidents and mishaps. Furthermore, it creates betrayal and can lead to backstabbing and cheating. Be careful who you trust!
Particularly affected are the Matriarchs and therefore the nurturing energy of your home, as well as people born in the Years of the Sheep or Monkey. All these persons will need strong remedies this year and are advised to carry an Active Rhino & Elephant amulet for protection.

Together with the No 9 Period Star it forms the “Sum of Ten”, which is a very important indication for the year. You will be able to fulfill your goals and have completion luck. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity!
To activate the No 1 Star, you can display a Fly on Monkey on Horse in the CENTRE or install a small water fountain. Spend more time here and create noise and movement! The No 4 ROMANCE & SCHOLASTIC STAR flies into the NE
Also called the “Creative Star”, the No 4 Star brings the luck of Peach Blossom, which means love, romance and marriage opportunities, as well as academic success for students of all ages. It also inspires creativity and innovation for artists, writers and people in research and technology.
Flying into the NE means that it’s a good year for the Ox or Tiger to get married.
To harness the benefits of the No 4 Star, you can display the Swan of Saraswati or Saraswati’s Plaque in this sector. If you are single and wish to attract a soulmate, you can display a Peach Blossom Peony Love Box instead. (Married) couples with bedroom in the NE can carry a Double Happiness Love Talisman to strengthen their loving relationship.
The No 6 STAR OF HEAVEN flies into the NORTH
Heaven luck is such a wonderful energy, bringing divine blessings, “Gui Ren luck”, meaning helpful people coming into your life just when you need them, mentors and benefactors who can open new doors for you, fame, recognition and promotion luck as well as financial windfalls.
The Heaven Star flies into the NORTH this year and activating it will help your life to be smooth and things falling into place nicely.
To activate, you can display Ksittigarbha Sitting on a Chi Lin in your NORTH. Deities bring the Heaven Star to life, and you can also use a deity of your own faith instead.
If you wish for some windfall luck, you can display the 3-Legged Toad with Giant Pearl instead and carry a Windfall Yantra amulet. This is particularly recommended for people born in the Year of the Rat and the middle son, as the No 6 favours them this year.
The THREE KILLINGS is another annual affliction to watch out for and is located in the NORTH this year. As the name suggests, they bring three kinds of killing energy:

2. Loss of a loved person/relationship
3. Loss of wealth/income
Never have the 3 Killings behind you. It is best to confront the 3 Killings but never have your back to them.
Suppress the Three Killings with the Three Celestial Guardians Plaque, or the three Celestial Guardians (Chi Lin, Fu Dog, Pi Yao) together placed in the NORTH.
People born in the Year of the Rat and the middle son must carry a Three Celestial Guardians card or amulet for protection this year.
The No 8 PROSPERITY STAR flies into the EAST
In Period 9, the No 8 Wealth & Prosperity Star becomes weak, even more so in 2026 when it flies into a Wood element sector. And because the No 8 Star is weak, it can also bring illness. It is therefore important to activate it carefully – as we do wish for money and good luck, but we don’t want to get sick! The EAST is also the health sector of the house, so subduing the danger of illness is important.

The No 9 STAR OF CURRENT PROSPERITY flies into the SE
The No 9 Star is the luckiest star now that we are fully in Period 9. It brings immense wealth luck, great good fortune, abundance, success, completion and growth. It also enhances popularity and wonderful family luck.
This year, the No 9 Star is very strong, so make the most of it! Fill this part of your home with symbols of wealth to attract fabulous fortune and spend as much time here as possible. If your toilets or bathrooms are in the SE, then you can activate the No 9 Star in the “small tai chi” in the common rooms, where you spend a lot of time (but not in a bedroom).

RENOVATION RULES for 2026
This year, the following sectors should not be disturbed by renovations:
SOUTH– due to the Tai Sui (SOUTH 2 between 172.5° – 187.5°)
NORTH – due to the Three Killings (315° – 45°)
SOUTH – due to the 5 Yellow. (157.5° – 202.5°)
If you absolutely cannot avoid carrying out renovations in these areas of your home, then it would be better to move out while the works are being done.
