What is betrayal? Using the trust of another to stab someone else in the back, throw them under a bus, inform on them to the authorities. It could be to cheat on a spouse. It could be to work as a double agent and to be disloyal to one’s own country. ‘Betray’ can also mean something that is revealed via inadvertent body language, something one just comes across. Here’s a personal tale: when Pluto by transit opposed my natal Mars, I caught sight of certain things on my medical notes, from childhood. I never felt the adults had ever been entirely honest with me….
There is a chart online for two traitors that come to mind, Kim Philby and William Joyce, or Lord Hawhaw. Feel free to put these up, discuss them, or add charts of your own, any stories worth sharing.
If not Pluto, then maybe a combination of other planets such as Neptune? Or Neptune together with Pluto? Astrologers such as Dane Rudhyar believed that the two planets together could presage true evil, and there was a conjunction between these two planets in Gemini at the turn of the century. At that time deliberate misinformation was deliberately fostered by someone later on, who had these planets conjunct: Goebbels. Hopefully most people here already know what he was infamous for.
Enid Blyton had this conjunction too, though it seemed to me that she was determined to bury Pluto under the golden syrupy delusion that nasty things like death never happen in Noddyland. She did massively betray her first husband though. I’ll reveal more if anyone is interested.
The Godfather books and movies explain that to betray, to inform, to grass, is the supreme act of treachery, yet the characters within them, do constantly betray. Most often this is down to gaining tactical advantage over one’s enemies, moving up the pecking order of supreme power. Alas, there is no TOB for Puzo. His chart shows up NNode, Venus and Mercury in Scorpio, Libra Sun, and a Sagittarius Moon, but that Moon could have been in Scorpio. Pluto doesn’t look that active, but there is a very close Mercury square Neptune.
Yes, Neptune may be denote betrayal too, it certainly may denote someone who *is* often betrayed.
But isn’t deception with the worst forms of betrayal more tactical, more about actively humiliating or hurting another to win advantage? Using the confidences or secrets of another to actively undermine or destroy?
That all seems more Plutonic than otherwise to me, and I saw no lack of Google pages that do equate Pluto with the wounding of betrayal. It may be a rather mercurial observation, but I couldn’t help noticing that there is a TV channel titled Pluto, that features a series of programmes dedicated to betrayal and betrayers……
So another planet that worth considering is indeed Mercury, connected to thieves, trickery and lying. Some kind of subtlety is needed to be able to deceive, as he skill of lying predicated a theory of mind….
Kim Philby had a Mercury/Pluto opposition…….
Over to you.
