An Interview with Cyndi Dale

OMTimes: Cyndi, your decision to author an ancestry book is intriguing and profound. What inspired you to explore this theme specifically through the lens of energetic frameworks? What do you hope readers will gain from understanding their lineage in this unique way?

Cyndi Dale: I’ve been fascinated with the subject of epigenetics since the early 2000s, when pioneer Michael Meaney began sharing research showing the link between stress and the epigenome, the chemical soup we inherit from our ancestors. YES! I thought science could now start composing ways to assist people with their life diseases by impacting these chemicals, which can turn genes on and off.

While many trauma pioneers have developed methods for aiding what is now called “transgenerational trauma”, there have been few inroads made in applying subtle energies. As I point out in my book, we are mainly composed of subtle energies. In fact, I believe that the subtle realms structure the physical world. Why are we not pulling the lever for transformation, employing our subtle energy structures? Moreover, why do so many approaches ignore the existence of the soul, yet another causal reason—and potential antidote—for traumatic reactions and patterns? I aim to offer a bold new pathway for healing our lineage by merging the subtle with the physical in Transforming the Legacy.

OMTimes: In our journey of healing, how can we tell the difference between the emotional or psychological issues that are truly our own and those that might be echoes of our family’s past traumas, especially when we’re using energy healing and our intuitive senses?

Cyndi Dale: This is an awesome question that speaks to the confusion most of us feel when separating our own issues from those of others. I have two main points to make.

  1. The issues that echo our ancestors will be almost impossible to address with typical therapeutic, medical, or self-care means. No matter what we do—from meditation to medicine—the impact will seem overwhelming.
  2. The heart chakra will know. When we’re dealing with our own challenges, no matter their intensity, our heart area will resonate with a deep level calm and steer toward resolution. When we’re trying to chisel away at energies that really don’t belong to us, the heart will seem more agitated and…here is that word again…overwhelmed.

I usually suggest that individuals request that guidance, including their own inner self, first energetically clear away the subtle energies that don’t belong to them. Typically, what remains, belongs to the self.

OMTimes: With the rich tapestry of our lineage weaving together blood, soul, and hybrid inheritances, how can we embrace and integrate these various strands into our lives today without feeling overwhelmed by the breadth of our ancestry?

Cyndi Dale: Start small and appreciate the positives.

I understand the mix of wow! and too much! presented by gaining the full breadth and impact of our history. The point of change is always in the present. Creating an optimum future is dependent on the decisions and actions we make today.

I would suggest that individuals ask their inner self to activate a few of the beneficial traits or wisdoms that are held within these three modes of the self. When stuck, employ can use the most fitting exercise from the book to heal history. Then, return to awakening valuable traits via with optimism and openness.

OMTimes: Could you explain how subtle energy works with our consciousness to help us shape and change our own energy fields?

Cyndi Dale: I love Dr. James Oshman’s newest science research. These are my crib notes from his and others’ research.

Basically, the Universe equates with divine intelligence. It stores all data (across time and space) in geometric forms. It is conscious. When we more deliberately interact with the Universe with our subtle energies, such as by holding higher intentions and positive thoughts, we become more conscious and conscientious. In turn, our physical cells are transformed, and we become healthier.

Some researchers, such as Dr. Shamani Jain, author of Healing Ourselves, propose that our biofield (the entirety of our subtle and physical energy field) is the mechanism for these exchanges with the Universe. Actually, we are nothing more or less than fields of energy, most of which are subtle.

In short, the more we love the spiritual qualities we hold and live by, such as faith, honor, goodness, and appreciation, the greater and more expanded we become. In turn, the Universe can “download” even more healthy patterns and insights to us.

OMTimes: You mention using intention as a tool to shift subtle energies. Could you guide us through a basic intention-setting exercise and explain how this practice can help listeners begin to tap into their energetic potential?

Cyndi Dale: An intention is a desire that is infused with power. Setting and honoring an intention moves you beyond daydreaming to compose a new and tangible reality, and it is key to tap into your energetic powers.

Creating an intention involves three easy steps. First, create a single-sentence statement that describes what you want. This sentence must combine at least one noun (subject) and a verb (action). Use the present tense to draw support to yourself in the here and now.

Second, season that statement with emotion. Emotion means “energy in motion.” By energizing your desire, you bring it to life.

The third step is ongoing. It involves repeating your intention to lock it in. Repeat it daily. Set it to song. Recite it in poetry form or write it on sticky notes to post everywhere. Let it come to life.

I’m going to invite you to create an intention right now.

Forge a wish based on your desire to access your subtle or spirit energies. Make sure it is positive and present tense. Then feel it! Embrace it! Now decide how you are going to bring this desire to life as often as possible. Use the intention as an affirmation. Sing and dance to your idea. Make it real, and it has a wonderful chance of becoming real.

OMTimes: In your experience helping people become their ‘own best ancestor,’ could you share a story where subtle energy work made a real difference in someone’s life? This helps us see how these energy practices can bring about profound changes in practical, everyday terms.

Cyndi Dale: I worked with a woman who had never been able to look at another person in the eyes. Her entire life. She was given a neurological diagnosis, and that was that. We conducted a short, guided meditation during a class that brought her into a hybrid life: her soul had been in her own bloodline. RIGHT AFTER, she came up to me and stared me in the eyes. Then at other people. And has continued to be able to do this since. (Amazing, right?)

OMTimes: Considering the idea that the Universe stores and transmits data through geometric vibrations, how can someone tune their personal energy to better align with these universal frequencies and potentially unlock profound insights or physical enhancements?

Cyndi Dale: My stars, this is an awesome question, and I can draw from a point made during a previous question.

It is not difficult to attune to the Universe’s vibrations. We have a ninth chakra about two feet over the head. It contains our own personal quantum codes that need to be in our system (physical and subtle) to live our best lives. Simply ask that the divine intelligence of the Universe send streams of healing energies downward through the top of this ninth chakra, which is gold in hue. Then allow that wash of universal and personal codes to flow through the eighth chakra, which is right above the head, and into the crown chakra.

From here, request that the divine bring that beautiful cascade all the way downward. This stream will move through your tenth chakra, which is about two feet underneath the ground. From here, the Earth will send this energy—with her own blessings and elements—up through your biofield and back to the heavens. You can keep this flow going and renew it anytime you want.

OMTimes: You’ve talked about how the ‘programs’ or frequencies we give off shape our lives. Could you share any funny or surprising stories where someone’s slightly offbeat beliefs led to unexpected situations?

Cyndi Dale: Absolutely. I had a client who swore that she had been from Transylvania in a past life. In fact, she had Transylvanian blood in her bloodline. She came into town to spend a day working with me, and after we cleared the trauma from her soul and lineage. We then activated superpowers she’d had previous access to; she ran into a…yes, a vampire convention at her hotel. Most of that group also flew out from the local airport the same day that she departed.

OMTimes: Considering the idea that setting intentions can really change our reality, how could someone who’s a bit doubtful give it a try on a small scale to see real effects? For instance, what’s a simple intention they could set that might even make their morning coffee taste a bit better? This could be a fun way for our listeners to dip their toes into the world of intentions.

Cyndi Dale: I think that a good life is a blend of the seemingly small and the seemingly great. As a case in point, one of my favorite movie scenes occurred in the first Star Wars movie ever released. Luke was using the Force to levitate small objects, but he clutched when asked to lift his ship out of the mud. Yoda, who was coaching him, reminded him that we are truly luminous beings and that size makes no difference. We simply think that small is unimportant and easy, and big is important and hard. So, go ahead and work on something small or minor at some level, and know that the same protocol will work for the big.

Let’s go with the suggestion you already tossed me.

Think about your morning beverage of choice. Before you rise in the morning, take a few moments. Set an intention, as you were taught to do earlier, with the three steps. First, compose a present-time sentence, “My beverage tastes splendid,” or “My beverage fills me with glee.” Go further and use a suggestion like, “My beverage is assuring me peacefulness all day long.” Then feel the emotion of that desire and, after rising, drink your fluid of choice and reiterate the intention. At least once during the day, remind yourself of your decision while still abed that morning and renew the sensation you have already established.

OMTimes: Given that both our psychological environment and genetic makeup shape us, how can family systems therapy help identify and address patterns that aren’t immediately apparent to us?

Cyndi Dale: I’m a huge believer and participant in family systems therapy. This approach focuses on the family as a unit and analyzes how interrelationships have shaped us. I began this version of therapy at age twenty, and when I feel called, I jump into therapy again.

In relation to our own past lives, we frequently repeat patterns; that is, in this life, our souls have been restimulating their memories within the current family structure. That means that doing our inner child work can assist us in releasing non-beneficial soul patterns as well as body-based patterns. It also infers that recalling and activating helpful traits that we might have shut down because of our this-life family can compel our soul to amplify these awakenings.

Family systems therapy is also conducted with our ancestry in mind. I remember attending “The Compulsivity Clinic” when I was 20. The process involved five days of family systems work, which included tracking my heritage’s traits back as far as I could go. Gaining an understanding of what I inherited enabled self-forgiveness but also instructed me in the power of choice. I could decide to be selective about what I wanted to continue or not. Yes, it’s been hard work, but so worth it. I completely believe that what I’ve altered to date within myself has empowered my children and grandchild.

OMTimes: How has your understanding of the energetic psychology of lineage helped you make more conscious choices and changes in your life? Could you explain how this knowledge might empower others to do the same?

Cyndi Dale: Principles of energetic psychology of lineage are very similar to the ideas behind family systems therapy. The exciting difference is that energetic psych embraces physical but also subtle impacts. For instance, our mother might have absorbed the literal feelings of her mother, and these might have been passed to us within the womb. We could now be crippled with high anxiety or depression and not be able to budge it. We can’t really heal what is not ours to heal.

In other words, we take on imprints that we unconsciously adjust to. As an example of the profundity of this knowledge, the energetic psychology approach helped me heal about 50 percent of the heart arrhythmia symptoms I was experiencing in my 30s.

My heartbeat went irregular from 10 p.m. to midnight, no matter what I did. I figured out that many of my family members were heavily drinking alcohol during this stretch of time, and that I was most likely exhibiting my grandmother’s allergy to alcohol. I was also energetically codependent, which meant that at one level, I was absorbing the subtle energies of the liquor to keep my loved ones from feeling the full effect. The moment I decided to stop acting out my grandmother’s allergy and to cease my controlling, codependent efforts, half of the arrhythmia disappeared. (And by the way, the rest disintegrated when I released a deceased ancestral soul wrapped around my heart. A story for another day.)

The power of intention emphasizes that we have the right to make decisions. In fact, I like using the word “declaration” in place of “intentions.” Declare that you are done with a pattern. Declare that you want to define your own destiny, and the path can start to clear.

OMTimes: With the wide range of traditions around ancestor veneration across the globe, how do you think these practices shape people’s connections to their past and their own identities today?

Cyndi Dale: According to a quick AI search, about 4,200 religions or faiths incorporate some sort of ancestral veneration. Think of what it would mean to grow up honoring the ancestors, requesting assistance from the dead, and incorporating ancient rituals to provide a context for our lives. We are each a knot on an unlimited number of strings that spread branches backward. This perspective gives us the knowledge that we can draw upon the strength and gifts of those who came before and even get direct assistance.

One of the many challenges that I have perceived facing adopted children who don’t know anything about their biology is that they often feel lost; they don’t know who or what came before. Sometimes, they lack a full sense of belonging. Think about the importance of belonging. It’s actually a fundamental need that improves longevity, physical health, mental acuity, and self-image (Mayo Clinic: https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/hometown-health/speaking-of-health/is-having-a-sense-of-belonging-important). It is also one of the cures for loneliness, which has become such an epidemic that Japan’s government has created The Office for Policy on Loneliness and Isolation. Rich or poor, easy or not, interactions with ancestral energies provide perspective and kinship.

OMTimes: Could you also share how your personal experiences with ancestral spirits have deepened your understanding of your lineage and its impact on your life?

Cyndi Dale: I was aware of many of my deceased ancestors throughout my life. I had a great-great-grandmother who would give me advice sort of willy-nilly, sometimes when I was forced to sew, which I hated. Another taught me spells in my dreams. I thought she was cool. One outstanding experience involved a several-hour regression with a therapist present. During that time, I called forth each of my grandparents, one at a time, and had them reveal important parts of their lives. I felt as if I blended into each of their souls.

As a child, I had been frightened of my father’s father, whom I called Bupa, when he was alive. He was depressed, grumpy, and often drunk. During my interactions with his soul and memories, he concentrated on the loss of his mechanic’s shop during the Depression. I could feel how worthless he felt when my Grandmother Nellie had to support the family by taking in laundry. Once I understood him, I loved him and better understood my father’s moods. I stopped blaming myself for my father’s withdrawals and nightly drinking and was able to shift out of an underlying sense of sorrow and depression I had felt inside to that point.

Linking with ancestral spirits can teach us so much about ourselves. I believe that they can grow with us, too. I like to think that my intimacy with Bupa helped his spirit become freer and clearer, and created joy for his next stage.

OMTimes: Considering your own experiences and those of your Grandma Nellie, how do you distinguish between psychological phenomena and genuine spiritual encounters with ancestors? What advice would you give to someone who is trying to discern and possibly connect with ancestral spirits?

Cyndi Dale: My Grandmother Nellie could see ghosts. In fact, after Bupa (her husband mentioned above) died, she visited with him a few times in her television. I, too, could interrelate with spirits throughout most of my life.

OMTimes: There has been a lot of research about Voices. What voices (or images or senses or knowings) are caused by being psychic and what comes from psychosis?

Cyndi Dale: These Phenomena can indeed be based on abnormal or traumatic psychological causes or chemical instabilities. I am not a physician nor a therapist, so this is not my conclusion to determine. I consistently suggest that people remain in therapy and on their medications if it is believed that the causes of psychic experiences need this professional support. Especially if intrusions are frequent, harmful, or negative, see with a professional.

Having said that, most of my clients and family members are spiritually sensitive or psychic. A phrase I came up with years ago, however, to put this in context is this…

Just because someone is dead doesn’t mean they are worth talking to.

We all have the right to decide who/what we want to interact with or not. Inscribe this statement into the mind! The same phrase can apply to any spiritual encounter.

Now for cultivating a contact or furthering one made already.

The safest way to do this is to employ boundary-based energetic techniques. The exercise I use, which is in my book, is called Spirit-to-Spirit. It is easy and elegant. First, affirm your own spirit or highest self, then call to yourself only the highest self or spirit of another. Then, put whatever you call the Greater Spirit in charge of any interaction. Pay attention to all your intuitive senses to gauge the beneficence of a contact and know that it is your right to shut a connection down if it makes you feel sick, exposed, unsafe, or shaky. Other than that, you can write down the lessons of an encounter and enjoy it.

I also love suggesting that seekers set up a vision quest of sorts. Ask for an ancestor to safely make itself known over the next three days, and pay attention to dreams, sensations, or any life oddities. What an adventure it can be to be touched by a loving ancestor!
