This case study, “99 Things You Should Know About Your House,” started out as a Free Download on my website. It was a contest, asking 99 questions, to see if you could answer any of the questions correctly. The reward was one dollar for each correct answer, redeemable in products and services.
Hardly anyone could answer correctly more than a couple of questions. It wasn’t meant to be impossibly difficult. But it was designed to educate a novice in what they are in fact entitled to find out if they hire a classically trained feng shui professional. Most people have no idea how many personal things can be identified in a high level audit, including using the Flying Star School.
After the Free Download ran its course, I turned it into one of the Case Studies by answering all the questions. It makes for a handy learning tool for both the novice, as well as the aspiring consultant.
EXCERPT:
- Which of the four major house types is yours?
You will be answering this correctly if you know if your house is Wang Shan Wang Shui (this one is often referred to by its Chinese name, but it translates as “prosperous Mountain, prosperous Water”), Double Sitting (Shang Shan), Double Facing (Xia Shui) or Reversed House type (Shang Shan Xia Shui).
- How do you remedy your house if it is Double Sitting, Double Facing or The Reversed House type?
The correct answer is how you use mountain and/or water on the appropriate side of the house. The Double Sitting House needs water behind it, the Double Facing House needs a mountain in front of it and the Reversed House needs water in the back and mountain in the front. This is about balancing the house type on the outside, which can then have a benefit for the entire house.
- Does the Wang Shan Wang Shui House need any remedies?
Technically, the WSWS house does not need any outside adjustments to correct anything flawed, yet this house type can still be enhanced further with exterior adjustments. And as well, the WSWS house usually needs interior adjustments just like any other house.
- What has been or will be the impact of any remodels or additions to your house?
You will be answering this correctly if you mention that additions can change the distribution of qi and the boundaries of the directional zones within the floor plan. As well, radical remodels could even change the Period of the house, such as when the ceiling and roof are removed and open the house up to the sky.
- Under what circumstances would a remodel change the Period of your house?
There is more than one correct answer to this question, such as when a house more than doubles in size from an addition or when a major portion of the roof and ceiling are removed. A moved house can also change its Period (and orientation!).
The questions and answers ran the gamut from observations to calculations, the obvious to the non-obvious in what constitutes a comprehensive feng shui evaluation.
