Over the years I have noticed some similarities with clients who are sensitive to EMF’s.  Firstly, we should define EMF’s for those not yet familiar with the acronym.  EMF’s stands for Electro-Magnetic Frequencies.  And RF’s stands for Radio Frequencies.  There are also ELF’s: Extremely Low Frequencies, referring to electromagnetic radiation with frequencies between 3hz to 300 hz. Power line frequency is between 50-60 Hz.

We all have varying levels of sensitivity to these electrical waves and are now bombarded by them everywhere we go. With everything wi-fi and an addiction to cell phones, this situation will likely get worse unless public awareness mandates protection and safeguards added to our technology. Years ago, I sat in on some Building Biology workshops, with attendees at various levels of professional proficiency in doing EMF Remediation for homes and businesses. Some of these people had worked in the phone and computer industry, acknowledging that these companies have an official policy to deny the health risks in using their products.

Just because someone is not aware of the EMFs does not mean they are not having an influence.  As one example, a man who sits all day with a lap-top inches from his actual lap may not know there is a problem until have tries to have children. EMF exposure can significantly reduce a man’s fertility. Some believe the chronic EMF exposure also increases risk of cancer. Those who know they are sensitive to EMFs may feel nauseous when they are anywhere near a router. Other electrical devices as well can cause cognitive difficulties and a breakdown of the immune system.

Those who are not aware they are awash in EMF’s may have any number of health issues or discomforts, but not make the connection that EMF’s could be causing these problems. The HPA Axis is a vital system in the body. It regulates stress responses and maintains homeostasis. EMF’s can disrupt the HPA Axis, contributing to an increase in cortisol levels, which then contribute to metabolic syndrome.

So, it should be no surprise that I’ve noticed my EMF-sensitive clients also have allergies. Most are gluten-intolerant and they have other allergies too many to list.  Again, no one should knowingly allow themselves to be exposed to harmful chemicals or things like black mold, but it is the EMF-sensitive person that will notice something is “off” as soon as they enter a room.   One might think this level of sensitivity is a blessing in disguise, as if the body sends out an immediate alert. But those who suffer from EMF overwhelm and allergies would rather be more functional and less stressed, even though ignorance is not bliss.

One could also wonder which came first?  Have the allergies made someone more sensitive to EMF’s or did the EMF’s make a person more sensitive to adulterated food, glyphosate, or the sea of other chemicals and toxins all around us?  They seem to exacerbate each other.  This is not at all far-fetched; think about how many drug interactions one has to avoid when they are on prescription medication.

Where the Feng Shui part comes in is that I have noticed most, if not nearly all of my clients with EMF-sensitivity, also have a frustrating relationship with their home or place of work. Trying to escape high EMF’s, this is the type of client who moves frequently as they sometimes don’t know until after they move in, that they are too close to an installation blasting 5G or any high electrical fields for various sources.

The EMF-sensitive person often can’t settle in and may be hyper-influenced by less than perfect Feng Shui influences.  To a degree, these folks don’t respond as well to feng shui adjustments as others. The opposite may also occur, where the EMF-sensitive person should move to a place with better Feng Shui, but they become a prisoner of their home and find it too overwhelming and stressful to move. A vicious cycle takes over as they resign themselves to live with all sorts of undermining influences.

With priorities in mind, I have recommended this kind of client who is house hunting, to put the classical feng shui principles aside and first find a place where they can live without excessive exposure to the high electrical fields. Newer constructions are often “Smart Homes,” and because of it, this drives the EMF-sensitive people to search for older homes that have not been tricked out with all-things wi-fi. Simple pleasures, like having appliances that are NOT monitored by an App, or a front door that is opened by an old-fashioned key.  Come to think of it, driving a newer car could also make a vulnerable person even more agitated.

EMF’s can be considered a modern Feng Shui hazard and yet there are some resources to block or shield them. EMF-blocking items can be pricey, but those suffering with EMF-sensitivity have no other options. There are even EMF-blocking clothes one can wear.
