The subject at hand is a bit technical, but its intended audience is really more for the lay person than the practitioner. And this is because clients with little or no training in Flying Star School Feng Shui have asked about the “Robbery Star.” They are reading about it on-line and “inquiring minds want to know.”
For the sake of this article, let’s refer to one situation as the “Robbery Star Combination” and the other as the “7 Stars Robbery Formation.” I’m sure there are more descriptive words in Chinese to distinguish these two, but I’m committed to making this post as user-friendly as possible.
Let’s tackle the Robbery Star Combination first. In Xuan Kong Fei Xing (Flying Star School), we use the word “star” to refer to energy sources which exist in every structure. This (Qi) energy is created when the structure (house or building) is built and there are a total of 144 different flying star charts based on when built and compass alignment. Not all structures or flying star charts possess the “Robbery Star Combination.” This is the “bad” one.
The Robbery Star combination defines a pairing of the 3 mountain dragon with the 7 water dragon or the 7 mountain dragon with a 3 water dragon. The shorthand for these star combinations is 3-7 or 7-3. Stay with me.
This is the combination which can attract arguments, gossip, legal problems and theft, like a robbery. It is nothing you see with your eyes; rather, this is all calculated. This is the potential and then other feng shui features can activate the combination, such as with a visiting annual 3 or 7 star to that same location. If there is a door or window in that location, it can also set off alarms (pun intended). Without further details, let’s just say that some houses have this flying star pattern and when it happens to land at a doorway or in a part of the house that is heavily used, the extra stimulation can attract those unwanted outcomes like theft.
Sometimes it is the “hidden agenda” of the house, and not that the 3-7 stars are in a particular part of the house or building. For example, houses which face west and built between 1944-1963 have the 7 and 3 combination in the non-literal center of the house. This is the “guts” of the house so it means there is always a potential for theft or break-in.
Now, there is another entirely different situation that we’ll call the 7 Stars Robbery Formation. And it is seen as an extremely good chart for a house, very lucky. However, there is a list of needed criteria for this house type which goes beyond just the flying star chart. Some people think they have the 7 Stars Robbery Formation in their house, but one or more pieces might be missing.
The use of the number “7” here also relates to something else besides Flying Star 7. There are nine stars total in the Ursa Major Constellation (Big Dipper). Seven stars form the “ladle” and two are considered “assistant” stars.
The 7 Stars Robbery Formation has an expiration date for it, even though others have written about it as if it is a perpetually good house type. This is where some of the confusion has come in.
We can consider the 7 Stars Robbery Formation chart type to be one of the Feng Shui Special House Types. I’ve written about some of them in my books, like The Feng Shui Continuum. Others have as well, and some have taught entire workshop classes around these Special House types.
This is the part that gets very technical, as the 7 Stars Robbery Formation chart includes bits of the Parent String principle, the Pearl String principle and the He Tu principle all rolled into one chart. Then, when the chart fits all the criteria, you still need to have a door or window in the Northwest, East and South sectors in order to activate the timely stars.
The bottom line is that none of the half dozen pieces to this Special House type matter if the house has transcended the Construction Period it was built in. For example, if the 7 Stars Robbery Formation chart exists for a South-1 facing Period 7 house (built between 1984-2003), then that house type will not experience the same good luck in succeeding time frames until the next Period 7 arrives 180 years later (or 160 years later if we go from the end of one Period 7 to the beginning of the next Period 7).
The South-2 facing Period 8 chart also had the makings of the 7 Stars Robbery Formation, but its time has come and gone as well, since we started Period 9 in 2024. Additionally, there would need to be a specific floor plan for this house type in order to manifest.
Why is the word “Robbery” used for a lucky house type?
Lost in translation, this metaphor implies that the chart is “stealing” something good from certain sectors or time frames. In the same way that I “stole” the idea for this article, it can be a way to make lemonade out of lemons if you “borrow” some honey to make it. Feng Shui is full of examples where you can take something bad or dangerous and turn it around into something positive or profitable.
Are these Special House Types for real?
I’ve speculated on this for decades, and some of my other professional peers have as well. There may be a dozen Special Flying Star charts, but if the outside natural or man-made environment does not support that House Type, then that is another way in which we won’t see the full potential of the Special House Type.
For the current Period 9, this narrows the search for a 7 Stars Robbery Chart. We only look to the Period 9 construction Period from 2024-2043. I scanned all the Period 9 charts and found only 2 charts that qualify.
Let’s look at what goes into a 7 Stars Robbery Formation, using a Period 9 chart.
The references here may not be understood by those without Flying Star School training, but here is what we are looking for:
- The chart MUST be a Double Facing or Double Sitting chart and not the other two basic chart types. For example, we won’t find any 7 Stars Robbery Formation charts from Period 5 because Period 5 does not have any Double Sitting or Double Facing charts.
- For Period 9, we have the chart with the 9-9 stars in the sitting or facing sector.
- I’m using the South-1 facing chart as the example because another criteria is that the main door must be in the sector with the 9-9 stars. For a Double Facing house, that is easier to accommodate with a main door on the facing side (front) of the house. There is one other 7 Stars Robbery Formation chart in Period 9 and that one faces North-1, Double Sitting.
- Can we still work with the North-1 facing house, but with a main door on the Sitting (back side)? There can be instances where a main door is on the Sitting side, such as a house with a main door on the street side, but the house is architecturally designed to face the backyard, such as with homes on a mountain facing views or homes facing the ocean, opposite the street side.
- We must have a He-Tu combination between a specific set of stars. The He-Tu combinations are 1-6, 2-7, 3-6, 4-9 and 5-1. For the 7 Stars Robbery Formation, the central mountain star must form He Tu with the mountain star in the sitting or facing sector. The central water star must form a He Tu with the water star in the sitting or facing sector. With the example given: the 4 water star in the center aligns with the 9 water star in the facing. The 5 mountain star in the center aligns with the 1 mountain star in the sitting sector. By the way, my chart example uses the Nine Palace Grid style of showcasing the Flying Star chart. But this is all the same for the pie shape sector method.
- Next we work with the Parent String Combination that is relevant to the current Period. Parent String combinations are 1-4-7, 2-5-8, or 3-6-9. Since it is Period 9, we look for the formation of a 3-6-9 pattern with the WATER DRAGON star in the Northwest, East, and South sectors. With the example given: there is a 9 water dragon the South, a 6 water dragon in the East, and a 3 water dragon in the Northwest. Back in Period 8, we would be looking for the 2-5-8 combination and in Period 7 we were looking for the 1-4-7 combination.
- Within the floor plan, there must also be an exterior door or window in the northwest, east and south in order to complete all the requirements of this Special House Type.
Even with the criteria listed, these requirements are still subject to interpretation according to individual practitioners. For example, one client wanted to know if she could build a door in the required direction, after the fact, after the house had been built. Perhaps, but not in her case since the house was no longer in its original construction Period.
Someone else might wonder if they can use a door in the right location, even if it is not the main door. Perhaps. Some will wonder if there is any special residual luck to the house which fits all the criteria EXCEPT it is no longer in the original Construction Period. Perhaps.
