First off, it only makes two aspects – a square to Mars Leo, and a square to Pluto Aquarius. Both Mars and Pluto are locked in its final opposition with each other.
Additionally, the New Moon makes an opposition to Lilith in Scorpio. Creating a Grand Cross.
We have had two previous Mars/Pluto oppositions, due to Mars retrograde. Dates and degrees here:
3rd Nov – Mars Cancer opposite Pluto Capricorn at 29°45′
3rd Jan – Mars Leo retrograde opposite Pluto Aquarius at 1°08′
27th Apr – Mars Leo direct opposite Pluto Aquarius at 3°48′
Only the last one coincides with a lunation. The opposition occurs on the same day, just hours before the New Moon arrives. It’s while the Moon is still in Aries, so it’s during the Balsamic phase of the last Lunar Cycle, which just so happened to be the Aries Solar Eclipse.
So the Mars opposite Pluto combined with a Balsamic phase of the Moon suggests a letting go, a release, internalised energies, karmic closures. A winding down of an old cycle. A final decrease of the Lunar light before it descends into darkness.
However, Fixed signs are very reluctant to do this! They want things to remain unchanged, holding onto anything that provides stability. Letting go is an anathema to them.
Pluto Aquarius may be more comfortable with this, as its about endings and transformation. And in Aquarius, transformation into something novel, new, different. Uncharted territory, frontiers of the unknown. Pluto is accustomed to the dark.
Mars may be the one that proves to be the more resistant one. It’s in Leo, ruled by the Sun, which is all about the light. It will want to shine as bright as it can, fighting (Mars) to sustain its life force (sun-ruled).
The ruler of the New Moon is Venus. Newly direct, still gaining momentum, and exalted in Pisces. Also tightly conjunct Saturn and the North Node in Pisces. The last sign of the zodiac, and the epitome of the end of cycles.
Not forgetting the Moon in Taurus is also exalted.
So it feels more like Mars opposite Pluto, will be the trigger point that forces a letting go, a release, a surrender. In Fixed signs, there may be no option, no other way around, only the one direction of events, action. It may feel like an inevitability.
With it being ruled by Venus conjunct Saturn/North Node Pisces, it may feel like unseen higher forces are at play at ending a cycle, like it was “written” by destiny. The old “things happen for a reason” mindset. With Saturn, a feeling of events being pre-ordained. There is a highly spiritual element to this that may be tapped into. It may feel like a “higher calling” or purpose.
It helps having the Moon and Venus in its exaltation, Venus Pisces will add unity, connections, compassion, a joining of forces. Maybe even forgiveness and redemption. Uniting in the face of adversity.
Lastly, on a more positive note, the New Moon with Mars/Pluto, could tap into an immense strength you never knew you had. Fixed signs can be capable of sheer determination, resilience, fortitude. They keep going long after everyone else has given up.
This will lead into the May 12th Scorpio Full Moon, which will be directly opposite Uranus Taurus. Don’t expect this lunar month to be stable, it may be very turbulent indeed.
How will it affect you? Personal and mundane thoughts welcome
