This Week in Astrology Aug 10-16, 2025

depiction of a last quarter moon as half white, half black

Last Quarter Moon

The Last Quarter MOON occurs on Saturday, August 16th, 2025, at 1:12 AM EDT.

Early Saturday, the Last Quarter Moon occurs as the Sun in Leo forms a square with the Moon in Taurus.

The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon when something new is born once again.

It’s not an ideal time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. It is, however, time to begin finishing up the details of what was conceived at the last New Moon. We might consider recent revelations, what they mean to us, and what we might do about them.

The Last Quarter Moon Chart:

Last Quarter Moon Chart: August 16th, 2025

This phase of the Moon occurs at 23 degrees and 36 minutes of Taurus square the Sun at the same degree of Leo, affecting people with personal planets and points at approximately 22 to 26 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

NEXT WEEK:  The next moon phase will be on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, at 2:06 AM EDT, when the New Moon occurs.

Previous: Full Moon

Full Moon

The Full MOON occurs on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, at 3:55 AM EDT.

Early Saturday, a Full Moon occurs when the Sun in Leo at 17 degrees and 0 minutes forms an opposition to the Moon in Aquarius at 17 degrees and 0 minutes.

Our feelings blossom now. Full Moons are about connecting us with things we already know but aren’t acknowledging, such as buried feelings, or they bring secrets to light and projects to a turning point.

The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time – a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.

The Leo Sun is proud and intensely individual–not content with simply being just one of the team. The Aquarius Moon, while individualistic as well, values independence and the team, community, and group spirit. The Full Moon illuminates this conflict.

When a Full Moon occurs, we can suddenly burst forth with proclamations and outpours that seem fresh and new, simply because they are not yet rationalized. In fact, a Full Moon illuminates feelings, attitudes, and circumstances that are already in existence.

This is a time of awakening to the need for others or to answer to humanitarian impulses.

The Full Moon Chart:

Full Moon in Aquarius Chart: August 9th, 2025

This phase of the Moon occurs at 17 degrees and 0 minutes of Aquarius opposite the Sun at the same degree of Leo, affecting people with personal planets and points at approximately 13 to 21 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

Because this lunation occurs around the same time Mars in Libra opposes Saturn and Neptune in Aries, there can be some tension now.  With this configuration, a quest for more meaningfulness in our pursuits can be behind some of the stress we feel now. There could be a choice about sacrificing something for a cause or a better future. It can be hard to rise to challenges now. Our energy is stop-and-go, and we can feel depleted until we not only find inspiration but have a plan to work toward our goals.

Similarly, a course of action may be difficult to formulate or follow. It can be a time when we attach a higher meaning to our struggles or need an incentive to carry on our plans.

On our pursuit of more meaningful goals, it’s important to stay focused and determined. We should be wary of trickery and deceit that may lead us astray, and instead, stay true to our path. This steadfastness will guide us towards our desired outcomes.

This Full Moon also occurs with Venus applying to a conjunction with Jupiter, offering us much promise and hope. A desire to enjoy ourselves or grow our relationships can be motivators now. Our need for love and affection runs high.

(Times are Eastern)

This week: The Sun is in Leo; Mercury is in Leo; Venus is in
Cancer; Mars is in Libra.

The Sun is in Leo from July 22-August 22. In Leo, the Sun is proud, outgoing, and playful. The Leo Sun is intensely individual—not content with simply being just one of the team. It’s time to shine, add a touch of color and drama to our lives, and perform.

We’re blossoming–it’s a time when we want to enjoy ourselves and express ourselves. We are more generous and grand in our gestures and attitudes. On the shadow side, we can also be self-centered and vain.

While the Sun is in Leo, we take the high road, and we’re very often motivated by the idea of gaining respect and affection. We more naturally express joy, humor, and warmth during the Sun-in-Leo cycle. We also tend to take the lead or become the center of attention and activity.

Mercury is in Leo from June 26-September 2. [This is an extended stay due to Mercury’s retrograde from July 18th to August 11th.] When Mercury is in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal–and the grander a goal the better! The details may not be quite as important now. We are more expressive, even theatrical and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence.

We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. With this transit, we may not listen as well as we normally do since we’re very focused on our own ideas.

We’re also strong about making decisions ourselves and letting our voices and input be heard. This is not a time when we’re content with letting others make all the moves or decisions–we need to be involved. We take the lead, manage, direct, and create while Mercury is in Leo. We need to relate to information or create stories about it to absorb it well. During this cycle, we should watch for being too inflexible, proud, or haughty to change course.

Venus is in Cancer from July 30-August 25. In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to our increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. We could be clingy or sulky during this period.

Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and are at our best when we feel safe and secure. We also want to make our loved ones feel safe and comfortable. It’s a good cycle for collecting and money related to real estate, accommodation, food, coins, silver, or antiques. We enjoy homey, familiar pastimes and art and simple pleasures.

Cautious with our feelings, we are not always confident about boldly trying or sharing new things during this cycle. However, we do whatever we can to make our loved ones feel special. Our memories are long, and we can be very sentimental.

Mars is in Libra from August 6-September 22. We tend to use our charm as a means to an end under the influence of this cycle. Because we can see many different sides of any given issue, we can be vacillating and indecisive about how to act. We don’t want to be the “bad guy” and rarely resort to force. Instead, we attempt to win arguments with style.

We are indirect in approach and inclined towards mental debates, yet we also try to make the opposition comfortable! Passive aggressiveness is the shadow side of this energy. We can be angry at ourselves if we’ve done too much conciliating.

We’re adept at predicting when problems and discord will occur well in advance and talented at compromise and conflict management.

We can be warriors for peace and justice during the Mars-in-Libra cycle. We strive for balance and avoid extremes. It’s an excellent time for strategy and teaming or partnering up to reach a goal.

Uranus is in Gemini.

Uranus is in Gemini from July 7th to November 7th, 2025, from from April 25, 2026, to August 3, 2032, and then from December 12, 2032, to May 22, 2033. Read about Uranus in Gemini in its calendar page.

Uranus will have more work to do in the sign of Taurus from November 7th, 2025, to April 25th, 2026. Uranus began in Taurus in 2018/2019. During this cycle, we approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.

There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Cancer from July 30 to August 25. We treat lovers with sympathy and tenderness, providing the emotional nurturing that they need. We tend to “play it safe” when it comes to relationships. Love and devotion are most important to us, and provide us with a sense of inner security. We seek a deep love in which we can merge souls and personalities with our lover. We are quite devoted to our partners, and we seek such devotion in return.

However, we could also become possessive, manipulative, and stifling. Familiarity is more important to us now. Our fear of rejection is overdeveloped, and we offer our hearts cautiously as a result. We pay more attention to our lovers’ feelings than their words. We feel threatened if a lover acts in an impersonal, overly independent, or detached manner. Safe and solid relationships are more appealing. Romantic and emotional hurts are very hard to forget.

In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and are at our best when we feel safe and secure.

This week:  On Monday and Tuesday, we’re generous with one another, ready to give each other the benefit of the doubt. We have large appetites for love and pleasure. There may be some overstating or overindulgence now, however.

On Wednesday, we can be somewhat flighty with one another, unsure whether we want to be close to someone or free from ties temporarily.

Friday brings a sense of pleasure in growing and improving. It’s a time of more cooperation and agreement.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Cancer Mothering (or being mothered), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time – these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.

Venus semi-sextile Mercury August 5. It may be all too easy to say things we don’t mean/feel.

Venus conjunct Jupiter August 11-12. We have large appetites for love and pleasure, and generosity of spirit as well. An excellent time (all things considered) to begin a new relationship, or renew an old/existing one.

Venus semi-square Uranus August 13. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness. A desire to experiment in the romance department may be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying or frustrating.

Venus trine True North Node August 15. We are more concerned about harmonizing and tend to be agreeable and cooperative. We could feel lucky in love, and we could meet someone who is good for us. Fortunate connections might be made now.

Venus square Chiron August 22. Not a commitment-friendly transit. We are somewhat fearful of investing ourselves emotionally in a relationship.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.

The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).

Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.

The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Saturday, August 9th, from 3:56 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to the Sun), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, on Sunday, August 10th, at 2:51 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Monday, August 11th, from 2:55 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Tuesday, August 12th, at 6:34 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Wednesday, August 13th, from 6:55 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to the Sun), until the Moon enters Taurus the next day, on Thursday, August 14th, at 9:23 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Saturday, August 16th, from 1:13 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to the Sun), until the Moon enters Gemini at 12:01 PM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives

It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).

The Moon is waning this week, which is usually considered unfavorable for new beginnings, although with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).

According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week from Sunday, August 10th, at approximately 5:55 AM EDT, until Monday, August 11th, at approximately 2:50 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Pisces. Note that Mercury is retrograde and approaching a direct station during this window.

Another window occurs on Wednesday, August 13th, from approximately 10:00 AM to 6:50 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Aries.

Yet another window occurs from approximately 12:05 PM EDT on Saturday, August 16th, until Monday, August 18th, at approximately 7:50 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Gemini.

This Week’s Calendar

This Week in Astrology Calendar: August 10th to 16th, 2025

This Week’s Aspects

MarsTrinePluto Mars trine Pluto. This is a powerful aspect that helps us to focus on our goals, to take decisive action, and to go after what we want without stepping on others’ toes. We are willing to explore alternatives rather than simply relying on the tried and true. We are not afraid of a challenge and are willing to attempt to overcome obstacles. This is a strong energy for reworking or overhauling a project.

SaturnSextileUranus Saturn sextile Uranus. This is a good time for practical, measured innovation in career, work, and life path matters. We’re making deliberate, calculated changes, and bringing form to our original ideas. Opportunities emerge to combine stability and improvement with good results. Events occurring now build character, and life lessons are digestible. It’s a period of solid, meaningful progress. This can be a time to solidify connections, bond with allies, and work on the primary structures of our lives.

VenusConjunctionJupiter Venus conjunct Jupiter. A potentially magical transit when we are especially generous and giving, optimistic, and kind towards others. We might also be quite indulgent under this influence. We might be tempted to overspend or overstate our feelings now. We are sociable, fun-loving, and desirous of sharing our happiness with others. We have large appetites for love and pleasure, and generosity of spirit as well. This can be an excellent influence for beginning a new relationship or financial undertaking, or for renewing and refreshing existing ties with others.

VenusSemi-squareUranus Venus semi-square Uranus. Unusual attractions (to people and things) can have us acting on a whim. We may deal with freedom versus closeness issues in our relationships. Avoid impulse buys at this time, and hold off on decision-making with regards to finances. Some instability, restlessness, and rebelliousness is probable in romantic relationships. We may not see eye to eye with a loved one, and we could be taken off guard by unexpected events. This is not a favorable aspect for beauty treatments because they could have unexpected results.

MercurySextileMars Mercury sextile Mars. Mental alertness, enthusiasm, and energetic communications figure now. Quick decisions can be made. We are productive and take “busy-ness” in stride. We are alert and aware, and can easily turn ideas into workable projects.

Note: Times given in the table/calendar above are Eastern Time (ET).

AUGUST 10

We’re heading toward Mercury’s station as it will turn direct early tomorrow. Today’s Mars-Pluto trine helps us make the best of our circumstances. We are in an excellent position to harness the power of desire and make it work for us. With this influence, we gain determination and a stronger feeling of purpose. We are willing to explore alternatives rather than fall back on the tried and true. Unafraid of a challenge, we prioritize overcoming obstacles. It’s excellent energy for reworking or overhauling a project. We are incredibly effective and perhaps a little ruthless about getting rid of what we don’t need. A Mars-Neptune parallel helps us with inspiration, imagination, and creativity. As well, the Moon transits Pisces from 2:51 AM EDT forward, and our focus is on our inner worlds, empathy, and downtime.

The void Moon continues today until the Moon enters Pisces  at 2:51 AM EDT.

AUGUST 11

Mercury stations and turns direct, ending its retrograde cycle that’s been with us since July 18th. This shift brings with it the potential for improved communication and decision-making. Over the coming weeks, problems we may have encountered while Mercury was retrograde should start to improve. The answers we’ve been waiting for arrive, and plans or projects that have stalled might now resume. However, energies that are hard to make sense of can flood our consciousness as the change takes place today, such that critical decision-making might be avoided for the time being, as our thinking can be temporarily skewed. It’s not yet a time of keen judgment as we don’t have all the details. However, clarity is coming, and things are moving forward.

Saturn forms a sextile with Uranus, and this is the second time this outer-planet transit with longer-term influence perfects (the first happened while Saturn and Uranus were in different signs, on April 4th, 2025, and the third will occur on January 20th, 2026). With this influence, we’re more likely to be doing what we enjoy and enjoying what we’re doing. Events occurring now build character, and life lessons are digestible. It’s a period of solid, meaningful progress. This can be a time to solidify connections, bond with allies, and work on the primary structures of our lives. The changes we make can have long-lasting benefits. Original ideas may now take form or develop quite successfully. There is an opportunity to combine stability with improvement/excitement, leading to good results. The same can be said about innovation and tradition.

We’re heading toward a Venus-Jupiter alignment in the sign of Cancer, and we’re radiating kindness and warmth and attracting happy situations. We’re not letting responsibilities or limitations stop us from enjoying ourselves. It’s a time of increased trust, tolerance, and generosity, especially with our feelings, as well as an inclination to indulge.

The Moon is void from 2:55 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Tuesday, August 12th, at 6:34 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Aquarius

MoonAquarius Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.

The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.

When the Moon is in Pisces

MoonPisces We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It’s a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.

The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

When the Moon is in Aries

MoonAries We’re motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.

People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It’s a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.

The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

When the Moon is in Taurus

MoonTaurusWe are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and “stop to smell the roses.” Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.

While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It’s a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.

The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.

When the Moon is in Gemini

MoonGemini Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.

The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.

Upcoming Weeks: Calendars

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):

Sun in Leo “This I do for me” is your motto at a time like this. This is your time to shine, like a swirl of starstuff that has finally reached critical mass and suddenly starts to give off more light than it receives. Issues of pride, mastery, and appreciation become more and more central to your lifestream as this cycle progresses, as does a very important lesson: it’s not what you do so much as how you do it, not who you are so much as how you make others feel about themselves. If it doesn’t come from the heart, it shouldn’t matter now.

Mercury in Leo The hallmark of the cycle you have just begun is thinking, learning and communicating with style. Intellectual creativity is highlighted, and your social connections have a certain flair of drama to them. Winning the admiration of others for the things you say or write (and the way you do it) takes on more importance in your life.

Mars in Libra “I’m giving you a definite maybe” – that’s the motto of the cycle you’re now entering. It’s a time of refinement and tact, of an urge to please others that is so strong as to make it hard to decide or act for fear of offending someone. You’ll quickly learn to balance this out, or you’ll discover that there is no peace in compromise – and this can be tough on close relationships. The trick is to find the win-win solution to the no-win situation – and if anyone’s ever up to it, you are now.

Jupiter in Cancer Taking care of yourself and all that’s yours becomes a high priority in your life now. Security, setting down roots, establishing your ties with the past: these things are among the articles of faith that guide you. This is often a sign of growth in all things connected with family and property (such as real estate).

Saturn in Aries Self-discipline and a sense of self-worth become important issues in your life as a new phase begins for you. A fear of asserting yourself can hold you back – as can coming on too strong. The trick is learning to make the most of your personal talents and abilities, working within your limitations instead of feeling hemmed in by them.

Uranus in Gemini New ideas, new input, and new ways of exchanging these things with others – all these and more become increasingly important factor in your life now, as you enter into a new phase. This is a period of enhanced mental activity, a nonstop stream of consciousness, of trying out new concepts and perspectives.

Neptune in Aries The frontier spirit is alive and well as a new cycle dawns in your life. Independence and originality take on a kind of primal importance for you; you tend to put these qualities on a pedestal, above all else. Fresh starts, new possibilities … these are the visions that light a spark in your soul. But what of the weak, the ones who aren’t free, the ones who get left behind?

Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.
