First Quarter Moon
The Full MOON occurs on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, at 3:55 AM EDT.
Early Saturday, a Full Moon occurs when the Sun in Leo at 17 degrees and 0 minutes forms an opposition to the Moon in Aquarius at 17 degrees and 0 minutes.
Our feelings blossom now. Full Moons are about connecting us with things we already know but aren’t acknowledging, such as buried feelings, or they bring secrets to light and projects to a turning point.
The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time – a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.
The Leo Sun is proud and intensely individual–not content with simply being just one of the team. The Aquarius Moon, while individualistic as well, values independence and the team, community, and group spirit. The Full Moon illuminates this conflict.
When a Full Moon occurs, we can suddenly burst forth with proclamations and outpours that seem fresh and new, simply because they are not yet rationalized. In fact, a Full Moon illuminates feelings, attitudes, and circumstances that are already in existence.
This is a time of awakening to the need for others or to answer to humanitarian impulses.
The Full Moon Chart:
This phase of the Moon occurs at 17 degrees and 0 minutes of Aquarius opposite the Sun at the same degree of Leo, affecting people with personal planets and points at approximately 13 to 21 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.
Because this lunation occurs around the same time Mars in Libra opposes Saturn and Neptune in Aries, there can be some tension now. With this configuration, a quest for more meaningfulness in our pursuits can be behind some of the stress we feel now. There could be a choice about sacrificing something for a cause or a better future. It can be hard to rise to challenges now. Our energy is stop-and-go, and we can feel depleted until we not only find inspiration but have a plan to work toward our goals.
Similarly, a course of action may be difficult to formulate or follow. It can be a time when we attach a higher meaning to our struggles or need an incentive to carry on our plans.
On our pursuit of more meaningful goals, it’s important to stay focused and determined. We should be wary of trickery and deceit that may lead us astray, and instead, stay true to our path. This steadfastness will guide us towards our desired outcomes.
This Full Moon also occurs with Venus applying to a conjunction with Jupiter, offering us much promise and hope. A desire to enjoy ourselves or grow our relationships can be motivators now. Our need for love and affection runs high.
NEXT WEEK: The next moon phase will be on Saturday, August 16th, 2025, at 1:12 AM EDT, when the Last Quarter Moon occurs.

(Times are Eastern)
This week: The Sun is in Leo; Mercury is in Leo; Venus is in Cancer; Mars is in Virgo until the 6th, when it enters Libra.
The Sun is in Leo from July 22-August 22. In Leo, the Sun is proud, outgoing, and playful. The Leo Sun is intensely individual—not content with simply being just one of the team. It’s time to shine, add a touch of color and drama to our lives, and perform.
We’re blossoming–it’s a time when we want to enjoy ourselves and express ourselves. We are more generous and grand in our gestures and attitudes. On the shadow side, we can also be self-centered and vain.
While the Sun is in Leo, we take the high road, and we’re very often motivated by the idea of gaining respect and affection. We more naturally express joy, humor, and warmth during the Sun-in-Leo cycle. We also tend to take the lead or become the center of attention and activity.
Mercury is in Leo from June 26-September 2. [This is an extended stay due to Mercury’s retrograde from July 18th to August 11th.] When Mercury is in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal–and the grander a goal the better! The details may not be quite as important now. We are more expressive, even theatrical and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence.
We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. With this transit, we may not listen as well as we normally do since we’re very focused on our own ideas.
We’re also strong about making decisions ourselves and letting our voices and input be heard. This is not a time when we’re content with letting others make all the moves or decisions–we need to be involved. We take the lead, manage, direct, and create while Mercury is in Leo. We need to relate to information or create stories about it to absorb it well. During this cycle, we should watch for being too inflexible, proud, or haughty to change course.
Venus is in Cancer from July 30-August 25. In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to our increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. We could be clingy or sulky during this period.
Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and are at our best when we feel safe and secure. We also want to make our loved ones feel safe and comfortable. It’s a good cycle for collecting and money related to real estate, accommodation, food, coins, silver, or antiques. We enjoy homey, familiar pastimes and art and simple pleasures.
Cautious with our feelings, we are not always confident about boldly trying or sharing new things during this cycle. However, we do whatever we can to make our loved ones feel special. Our memories are long, and we can be very sentimental.
Mars is in Virgo from June 17-August 6. In Virgo, Mars is somewhat of a workhorse. We have a passion for details, as well as a need to do the right thing at just the right time under this influence. The satisfaction of a job well done is one of your greatest incentives now. We are more precise and concerned about performance.
We’re more exacting and concerned with correctness and details in our work, output, or efforts. It’s a time of greater caution, skepticism, and discipline. We tend to focus on details and plans, sometimes losing sight of the bigger picture.
There can be a perfectionistic or workaholic streak. We have a greater interest in excelling or mastering a particular skill. Science and health are most appealing. This transit highlights work with details or requiring precision, such as surgery, bookkeeping, crafts, musical instruments, etc. It also spotlights attention to health and nutrition, the healing arts, and a great interest in how things work, techniques, mechanics, and systems.
It can be a time of irritability, tension, or nervousness. Attention to detail and technique is tremendous, although our vision or confidence may suffer if we limit ourselves. There can be competitive or inflamed situations with co-workers, work, routines, or healthcare.
Our standards for ourselves are high during this cycle, and we work hard to be accurate, precise, and efficient.
Mars is in Libra from August 6-September 22. We tend to use our charm as a means to an end under the influence of this cycle. Because we can see many different sides of any given issue, we can be vacillating and indecisive about how to act. We don’t want to be the “bad guy” and rarely resort to force. Instead, we attempt to win arguments with style.
We are indirect in approach and inclined towards mental debates, yet we also try to make the opposition comfortable! Passive aggressiveness is the shadow side of this energy. We can be angry at ourselves if we’ve done too much conciliating.
We’re adept at predicting when problems and discord will occur well in advance and talented at compromise and conflict management.
We can be warriors for peace and justice during the Mars-in-Libra cycle. We strive for balance and avoid extremes. It’s an excellent time for strategy and teaming or partnering up to reach a goal.
Jupiter is in Cancer.
Jupiter began its transit of Cancer on June 9th, 2025, and will continue its visit to the sign until June 30th, 2026. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Cancer.
Saturn is in Aries from May 24th, 2025 to September 1st, 2025, and then from February 13th, 2026, to April 12th, 2028. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aries. (Saturn isn’t yet completely done with its transit of Pisces. Saturn transits Pisces from March 7th, 2023 until May 24th, 2025, and Sep 1st, 2025, to Feb 13th, 2026. Read about Saturn’s transit of Pisces.)
Uranus is in Gemini.
Uranus is in Gemini from July 7th to November 7th, 2025, from from April 25, 2026, to August 3, 2032, and then from December 12, 2032, to May 22, 2033. Read about Uranus in Gemini in its calendar page.
Uranus will have more work to do in the sign of Taurus from November 7th, 2025, to April 25th, 2026. Uranus began in Taurus in 2018/2019. During this cycle, we approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Pluto is in Aquarius. Read about Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Note that Pluto finally completed its journey through Capricorn on November 19th, 2024, from which time Pluto stays in Aquarius for many years to come.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Cancer from July 30 to August 25. We treat lovers with sympathy and tenderness, providing the emotional nurturing that they need. We tend to “play it safe” when it comes to relationships. Love and devotion are most important to us, and provide us with a sense of inner security. We seek a deep love in which we can merge souls and personalities with our lover. We are quite devoted to our partners, and we seek such devotion in return.
However, we could also become possessive, manipulative, and stifling. Familiarity is more important to us now. Our fear of rejection is overdeveloped, and we offer our hearts cautiously as a result. We pay more attention to our lovers’ feelings than their words. We feel threatened if a lover acts in an impersonal, overly independent, or detached manner. Safe and solid relationships are more appealing. Romantic and emotional hurts are very hard to forget.
In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and are at our best when we feel safe and secure.
This week: On Monday, we’re letting love in. It’s easy to connect with and embrace our feelings and romantic needs–we’re ready to open up and be more vulnerable.
On Thursday and Friday, we can reach an impasse or obstacle. There can be a checkpoint moment for our relationships. Temporarily, we fear the worst and see the flaws, but then we can swing to glossing over problem areas. There can be some emotional distance or blockage, and ideally, it’s a time for reaching a new level of maturity and realism in your relationships. Relationship goals can very much clash with personal goals now.
Friday and Saturday bring some awkward energy to our interactions. Issues of power and control can arise, but they can be hard to discern. Unreasonable or irrational fears of loss, or jealousy, could also emerge.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Cancer Mothering (or being mothered), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time – these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.
Venus sextile Chiron July 28. Love has the power to heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them.
Venus square Saturn July 31-August 1. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship–new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus square Neptune August 1. Relationship ups and downs characterize this transit–a time when romantic mirages are more than likely. We see what we hope to see, rather than what really is. The “highs” of a relationship begun under this energy may be thrilling, but the accompanying “lows” are bound to set in, and they can be extremely draining. Be careful not to set yourself up for disappointment.
Venus quincunx Pluto August 1-2. This is a time of adjustments and re-assessments in our close personal relationships and/or with regards to our social lives. Issues of power and control can arise. Unreasonable or irrational fears of loss, or jealousy, could also emerge.
Venus semi-sextile Mercury August 5. It may be all too easy to say things we don’t mean/feel.
Venus conjunct Jupiter August 11-12. We have large appetites for love and pleasure, and generosity of spirit as well. An excellent time (all things considered) to begin a new relationship, or renew an old/existing one.
Venus semi-square Uranus August 13. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness. A desire to experiment in the romance department may be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying or frustrating.
Venus trine True North Node August 15. We are more concerned about harmonizing and tend to be agreeable and cooperative. We could feel lucky in love, and we could meet someone who is good for us. Fortunate connections might be made now.
Venus square Chiron August 22. Not a commitment-friendly transit. We are somewhat fearful of investing ourselves emotionally in a relationship.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Saturday, August 2nd, from 9:07 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Sagittarius the next day, on Sunday, August 3rd, at 2:01 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, August 5th, from 11:29 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 1:05 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, August 6th, from 1:40 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aquarius the next day, on Thursday, August 7th, at 9:19 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Saturday, August 9th, from 3:56 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to the Sun), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, on Sunday, August 10th, at 2:51 AM EDT.
August 2025:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waxing this week until the Full Moon on the 9th, which is usually considered favorable for new beginnings, although with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). The Moon is waning after the Full Moon on the 9th, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, but also with exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, there are no windows of opportunity this week. Note that Mercury is retrograde all week as well.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun semi-square Mars. Circumstances spur us into action. Aggressiveness and conflicts are possible now. As long as we channel the excess energy constructively, instead of wasting our time arguing, we can accomplish much. We may have “spring fever” now, no matter what the season! We could find ourselves driven by a restless desire to do something; but without a well-defined goal, we tend towards impulsive actions and get ourselves into needless arguments.
Sun sesquiquadrate Saturn. It’s hard to satisfy the ego today. We feel blocked by circumstances or others. It’s too easy to feel discouraged, but discouragement is a time waster. Gratitude isn’t forthcoming right now, so it’s best to wait it out rather than waste energy letting it get to you.
Mars trine Uranus. Bursts of energy and creativity. We are willing to take risks, possess personal courage, and can readily effect positive changes in our lives. We are naturally bold and assertive, willing to experiment, and conscious of a need to act independently. Our ideas may be ground-breaking, and at the very least progressive. A strong desire to make things happen is with us now.
Mars opposition Saturn. Circumstances or people tend to stand in our way or thwart our will just now, which can cause some feelings of resentment or frustration. It can be difficult to assert ourselves directly or in an otherwise healthy manner. Our desire to take action and to constructively express our aggressive urges feels thwarted or blocked. It can feel like more effort than usual is required to complete tasks.
Sun sesquiquadrate Neptune. Our willpower is low as we stray from our goals and temporarily lose focus. It’s difficult to formulate — or stick to — clear goals during this transit. Concentrating on artistic or spiritual pursuits is better than focusing on matters that require straightforward, factual thinking today. It can be difficult knowing where or how to direct our willpower under this influence. It’s also a challenge knowing where we stand with others. Avoid such things as scheduling surgery, important appointments, job interviews, or launches of new projects at this time.
Mars opposition Neptune. This can be a confusing, devitalizing, and discouraging time. It seems that whatever we try to do goes nowhere or gets lost in a haze of misunderstanding. Taking time off, working quietly, or doing something primarily for the benefit of others without concern for personal gain is favored at this time. Disorganization, lack of drive, lack of forethought, impracticality, and carelessness characterize this energy. Energy and time are too easily wasted. Passive-aggressiveness. It’s hard to know what we want and where we’re headed under this influence.

AUGUST 3
The Moon leaves Scorpio and enters Sagittarius early today, at 2:01 AM EDT. Early today, the Moon opposes Uranus, which can jar us out of our routine with something unexpected, such as a confrontation, a surprising change of plans, or acting on a whim. It’s best to keep our options open because our plans may not materialize. We might be seeking a loophole or a way out of emotional responsibilities, and we’re not very compromising with this transit in play. However, the Moon harmonizes with Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto this morning, helping us find a balance between emotion and practical application. Taking responsibility is not only empowering, but it comes naturally. At the same time, we can find ways to detach and calm ourselves through connecting to our dreams and ideals. The Sagittarius Moon encourages a direct, spontaneous approach to the world, at least on an emotional level. As the day progresses, a Moon-Mercury connection helps us find common ground and opens up the lines of communication. We’re enjoying more honesty now. Today, we enjoy staying up to date and informed.
The void Moon continues today until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 2:01 AM EDT.
AUGUST 4
AUGUST 5
The Moon is void from 11:29 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 1:05 PM EDT.
AUGUST 6
The Moon is void from 1:40 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aquarius the next day, on Thursday, August 7th, at 9:19 PM EDT.
AUGUST 7
The Moon is void until it enters Aquarius today at 9:19 PM EDT.
AUGUST 8
AUGUST 9
The Moon is void from 3:56 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to the Sun), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, on Sunday, August 10th, at 2:51 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it’s passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won’t work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it’s an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don’t want to plan ahead, and prefer to “wing it”.
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve “winging it”, travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don’t want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence–even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Leo “This I do for me” is your motto at a time like this. This is your time to shine, like a swirl of starstuff that has finally reached critical mass and suddenly starts to give off more light than it receives. Issues of pride, mastery, and appreciation become more and more central to your lifestream as this cycle progresses, as does a very important lesson: it’s not what you do so much as how you do it, not who you are so much as how you make others feel about themselves. If it doesn’t come from the heart, it shouldn’t matter now.
Mercury in Leo The hallmark of the cycle you have just begun is thinking, learning and communicating with style. Intellectual creativity is highlighted, and your social connections have a certain flair of drama to them. Winning the admiration of others for the things you say or write (and the way you do it) takes on more importance in your life.
Mars in Virgo As a new cycle dawns in your life, there arises a passion for details, a need to do just the right thing at just the right time, and a burning desire to have a place for everything and everything in its place. This can be hard on the digestion if taken to extremes! The satisfaction of a job well done is one of your greatest incentives now.
Mars in Libra “I’m giving you a definite maybe” – that’s the motto of the cycle you’re now entering. It’s a time of refinement and tact, of an urge to please others that is so strong as to make it hard to decide or act for fear of offending someone. You’ll quickly learn to balance this out, or you’ll discover that there is no peace in compromise – and this can be tough on close relationships. The trick is to find the win-win solution to the no-win situation – and if anyone’s ever up to it, you are now.
Jupiter in Cancer Taking care of yourself and all that’s yours becomes a high priority in your life now. Security, setting down roots, establishing your ties with the past: these things are among the articles of faith that guide you. This is often a sign of growth in all things connected with family and property (such as real estate).
Saturn in Aries Self-discipline and a sense of self-worth become important issues in your life as a new phase begins for you. A fear of asserting yourself can hold you back – as can coming on too strong. The trick is learning to make the most of your personal talents and abilities, working within your limitations instead of feeling hemmed in by them.
Uranus in Gemini New ideas, new input, and new ways of exchanging these things with others – all these and more become increasingly important factor in your life now, as you enter into a new phase. This is a period of enhanced mental activity, a nonstop stream of consciousness, of trying out new concepts and perspectives.
Neptune in Aries The frontier spirit is alive and well as a new cycle dawns in your life. Independence and originality take on a kind of primal importance for you; you tend to put these qualities on a pedestal, above all else. Fresh starts, new possibilities … these are the visions that light a spark in your soul. But what of the weak, the ones who aren’t free, the ones who get left behind?
Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.
