This Week in Astrology Sep 28-Oct 4, 2025

First Quarter Moon

First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter MOON occurs on Monday, September 29th, 2025, at 7:54 PM EDT.

On Monday, the First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Libra forms a square with the Moon in Capricorn.

There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.

The First Quarter Moon Chart:

First Quarter Moon Chart: September 29th, 2025

This phase of the Moon occurs at 7 degrees and 6 minutes of Capricorn square the Sun at the same degree of Libra, and affecting planets at approximately 5 to 9 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) the most.

NEXT WEEK:  The next moon phase will occur next week, on Monday, Oct  6, 2025, at 11:47 PM EDT, when the Full Moon occurs.

Previous: New Moon/Solar Eclipse

The New MOON/Solar ECLIPSE occurs on Sunday, September 21st, 2025, at 3:54 PM EDT.

On Sunday, a New Moon Solar Eclipse occurs in the sign of Virgo.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 29 degrees and 5 minutes of Virgo. In the last degree of the sign, there’s an urgency to our new beginnings. This eclipse opposes Saturn and Neptune and harmonizes with Uranus and Pluto. Our responsibilities to others, our emotional health, and our need for downtime can initially weigh us down. It can be difficult to pull ourselves away, but we have the tools to make the changes we now realize are necessary for growth.

It’s interesting to note that in this Virgo-Pisces set that runs from September 2024 to February 2027, this September Solar Eclipse is the only Solar Eclipse–the rest of the eclipses in this set are Lunar. It’s the fourth eclipse in this sign set.

A Solar Eclipse occurred at 29 degrees Virgo on  September 22nd, 2006, September 22nd, 1987, and September 22nd, 1968.

In the sign of Virgo, work and health matters will be a major focus on a personal level in the months following this eclipse. This lunation is about new beginnings regarding work, attention to details, fitness, health regimes, and daily routines.

It’s time to build our powers of healthy, constructive discrimination; learn to be more pro-active; start a new health and fitness routine; set up specific routines that will help us manage our lives in positive, mindful ways; and learn the “power of now” and of mindfulness. We can learn to master the “little” details of our day-to-day lives in a more organized manner so that we can free our minds of clutter. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to our work and health routines.

Flaws in an important system in our lives are revealed around the time of the eclipse, prompting us to redo or to start fresh. We may find ourselves completely re-working this area of life. Something ends in order for something else to start anew.

We may be called to give up something in order to move forward into a new chapter in our lives. Although the “new” may be unrecognizable, it is important to allow the necessary surrender to the unknown.

Virgo rules awareness of the body, making full use of resources, attention to details, organization, self-preservation skills, order, and critical analysis. Virgo sees flaws in systems, whether those systems are our daily routines, the methods we work with on the job, or our bodies.

Striving for perfection can be a wonderful challenge, as long as we don’t allow ourselves to become overly focused on flaws and feel guilty or perturbed over them. This is where Pisces, Virgo’s opposing sign, comes in to help. Compassion, and finding beauty in imperfection, is our path to balancing this energy.

For some, a new “calling” will surface in the coming six months. A new line of work that better matches our inner nature, desire to serve, or emotional make-up may unfold in the months following this eclipse.

Major developments in the personal areas of our charts ruled by Virgo are likely to occur over the course of the next 3-6 months. However, not everyone will feel the effect of the eclipse with the same intensity. Those whose personal planets are activated by the degree of the eclipse will feel its effects on a deeply personal level.

With this potent Virgo energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to these matters.

The New Moon Solar Eclipse Chart:

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Virgo Chart: September 21st, 2025

This phase of the Moon occurs at 29 degrees and 5 minutes of Virgo, and affecting planets at approximately 24 to 30 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) and 0 to 4 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) the most.

With this eclipse’s configurations, we can be managing skepticism, frustrations with inconsistencies, and difficulties trusting what to believe. It’s also important to remember that an eclipse obscures an area of our lives while magnifying another, which is useful as long as we keep this in mind. As such, our view is skewed and exaggerated. In other words, we’re not seeing the whole picture, and we should therefore proceed with caution.

Oct 21, 2025, 8:25 AM, Sun conjunct Moon (New Moon)

(Times are Eastern)

This week: The Sun is in Libra; Mercury is in Libra; Venus is in
Virgo; Mars is in Scorpio.

The Sun is in Libra from August 22-September 22. Libra rules relationships with others as mirrors of ourselves. Meeting others halfway, compromise, and negotiation come under the rule of Libra. The focus is now on balance–finding balance and harmony through relationships with others and through art. Libra is the sign of the peacemaker.

However, life is not always peaceful with Libra in its attempt to restore balance. Decision-making can be more challenging while the Sun is in Libra. Libra weighs both sides of any situation, and sometimes this process seems endless!

In Libra, the Sun is concerned about not rocking the boat and not rubbing others the wrong way. Tactfulness, style, tolerance, and sociability are some of the keywords for Libra. On the shadow side, Libra can be self-serving, indecisive, passive-aggressive, and superficial.

Mercury is in Libra from September 18-October 6. When Mercury is in Libra, we are diplomatic and friendly. During this cycle, we bring a more rational approach to one-to-one relationships. It’s a good time to think about ways to improve our negotiation skills.

Mercury in Libra can be vacillating energy as we attempt to see both sides of any given situation. Making quick decisions can be more challenging than usual, as we can sit “on the fence.” We may too easily accommodate others’ opinions to keep the peace. In our negotiations, we don’t want to assert ourselves so as to appear to be the “bad guy.” However, this is a reasonable period for considering others’ points of view. We are more inclined to arrive at fair conclusions.

Venus is in Virgo from September 19-October 13. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures–running errands, doing detail work, or just being there for our lovers. Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo.

Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual, but Virgo is also quite practical and mental. In addition to our romantic natures, what we purchase and the types of entertainment we enjoy during this cycle are ruled by whether or not they make sense and serve a practical purpose.

We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent at this time. Rendering services to others can fill a need, and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners or relationships, picky, nervous, or worried.

During the Venus-in-Virgo cycle, we can gravitate to, and find some benefits in, holistic healing, acupuncture, yoga, and nutritional boosts. We’re keenly interested in ways to enrich our lives and boost our well-being. “Health is wealth” could be a motto now. In fact, we might enjoy health-boosting activities more than usual. Businesses promoting nutrition, wholesomeness, and well-being might prosper at this time. Commitment and attention to detail are also more prominently considered virtues now.

In love, we’re not very showy, flowery, or demonstrative. Instead, we show our love through being of service. We’re conservative with money, pleasure, and romance at this time, ready to analyze and dissect these matters. This can also be a time when helping others, particularly with good advice regarding these Venus-ruled things, can be prominent and successful. We might meet friends or lovers through our work or health-pursuits. We can take a special interest in handiwork, crafts, lists/sorting, and bookkeeping.

Mars is in Scorpio from September 22-November 4. In Scorpio, Mars is driven and focused on getting what it wants. We are persevering, single-minded, and strong. The desire to experience our emotional depths, as well as the urge to penetrate the surface of life in order to explore deeper levels of existence, is powerful. We are fascinated with what others tend to repress, and are drawn to experiencing and understanding these things.

We are less inclined to avoid important issues now. In some ways, we are attracted to crisis, as we see crisis as transformative and emotionally exciting. We would rather feel extreme emotions than nothing at all, as mediocrity or the “middle road” is felt to be unsatisfying.

Uranus is in Gemini.

Uranus is in Gemini from July 7th to November 7th, 2025, from from April 25, 2026, to August 3, 2032, and then from December 12, 2032, to May 22, 2033. Read about Uranus in Gemini in its calendar page.

Uranus will have more work to do in the sign of Taurus from November 7th, 2025, to April 25th, 2026. Uranus began in Taurus in 2018/2019. During this cycle, we approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.

There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.

Pluto
is in Aquarius. Read about Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Note that Pluto finally completed its journey through Capricorn on November 19th, 2024, from which time Pluto stays in Aquarius for many years to come.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Virgo from September 19 to October 13. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures–running errands, doing detail work, or just “being there” for our lovers. Essentially, we fuss over our partners, sometimes a little too much! Our availability and accessibility is a sign of love.

Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual but also quite practical. We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent during this cycle. We can be a little shy and prone to worry. We pick up on many different cues, attempting to analyze every detail of our lovers’ reactions and responses. We could worry ourselves sick agonizing over details! In the process, we can miss out on the bigger and perhaps more meaningful cues.

As well, Virgo is a sign that can live very much in the mind in the middle of an experience, failing to enjoy the moment. Self-consciousness can get in the way of enjoyment. Rendering services to others can fill a need, and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners, picky, or worrisome.

This week:  On Sunday, there can be some reluctance to commit or show our affections. Monday brings a tendency to want to voice our feelings, but we should be careful not to over-intellectualize our affections. We’re inclined to analyze our feelings and relationships, and our interactions can bring up more questions than answers.

On Thursday, we could be looking for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousies and insecurities are more prominent in our relationships.

Friday and Saturday bring the tendency to review our attachments in terms of whether they are contributing to our growth. Encounters can feel fated. We are more sensitive to whether or not some relationships (or elements of our relationships) are good for us. It’s best to watch for falling back on behaviors and indulgences that keep us distant from our true feelings and needs.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Virgo If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn’t you feel guilty about it: that’s what it’s like now. A loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.

Venus semi-square Jupiter September 24. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.

Venus sesquiquadrate Chiron September 27-28. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves.

Venus contra-parallel Mercury September 29. We are voicing our feelings now, but we should be careful not to over-intellectualize our affections. We tend to analyze our feelings and relationships. Interactions bring up questions.

Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto October 2. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.

Venus conjunct Moon’s South Node October 3-4. This is a time for reviewing our attachments in terms of whether they are contributing to our growth.

Venus contra-parallel the Sun October 5. We are more strongly aware of our relationships (or lack) and the pride they give us. Dissatisfaction experienced now is likely due to inner discontent and yearning for more appreciation from our partners. Going out of our way to make others feel wanted, appreciated, and recognized is appropriate now.

Venus sextile Jupiter October 7-8. This aspect generates a happy, friendly, and optimistic attitude. People are a little more outgoing and sociable. Favors travel, education, and culture. Romantic opportunities. Harmony and good will.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.

The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).

Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.

The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Monday, September 29th, from 1:45 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 5:56 AM EDT.

VOC on Wednesday, October 1st, from 11:34 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 3:52 PM EDT.

VOC Moon on Friday, October 3rd, from 2:15 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Pisces at 10:07 PM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives

It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).

The Moon is waxing this week, which is usually considered favorable for new beginnings, although with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).

According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week on Wednesday, October 1st, from approximately 2:45 AM until approximately 11:30 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Capricorn. Another window occurs from Thursday, October 2nd, at approximately 6:30 AM EDT, until Friday, October 3rd, at approximately 2:10 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Aquarius.

This Week’s Calendar

This Week in Astrology Calendar: September 28th to October 4th, 2025

This Week’s Aspects

VenusSesquiquadrateChiron Venus sesquiquadrate Chiron. Blocks to intimacy are possible now as we focus on differences rather than similarities in our relationships with others. We might have a hard time learning from one another as a result.

MercurySquareJupiter Mercury square Jupiter. Information overload is possible today. It is all too easy to miss or neglect important details. We may exaggerate, have a hard time putting our ideas to practical use, or overstate under this influence. This is an unfavorable transit for travel. Our ideas and plans may be too grandiose just now. We could have a hard time convincing others of our point of view, and we could too easily jump to conclusions. There could be a lot of talk about nothing. Lack of clear mental focus, but we may make measurable progress if we can concentrate.

VenusSesquiquadratePluto Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto. This influence can point to some underlying tensions in social interactions (looking for an ulterior motive and suspiciousness) and relationships (possible jealousies). Passions run hot, but there’s a hidden agenda. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness can be brewing just under the surface of things, and they are in direct proportion to our fear of losing something or someone dear to us.

MercuryOppositionChiron Mercury opposition Chiron. Misunderstandings in communications that occur now stem from taking things too personally. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now. Doubting our ability to make a clear cut decision comes from a feeling that opposing viewpoints hold the same weight, and thus an inability to choose sides. There can be a sense of shooting ourselves in the foot when we present our ideas or opinions, and a feeling of misrepresenting ourselves when we communicate can figure strongly now.

MercuryQuincunxSaturn Mercury quincunx Saturn. Communication challenges today make it hard to get a point across. Delays, “red tape”, and vague feelings of forgetting important details.

Note: Times given in the table/calendar above are Eastern Time (ET).

SEPTEMBER 28

Today’s Sagittarius Moon is truth-seeking, spirited, and bold. A Venus-Chiron minor square early today can leave us feeling a little out of sync on a social level. There is a tendency to maintain emotional distance, and we focus on differences more than similarities in our relationships. However, as the day advances, our focus becomes more constructive and positive. With a Vesta-Pallas sextile today, we can achieve a satisfying balance between learning from tradition and moving forward. Our timing is good, and we can make informed decisions regarding work or long-term projects. We can be dedicated to a special cause and ready to put in the work.

SEPTEMBER 29

The Moon continues its transit of Sagittarius until 5:56 AM EDT, when it heads into organized, goal-oriented Capricorn. Later today, the First Quarter Moon occurs. This phase can bring tension or stress that motivates change, highlighting the potential for growth. A crisis theme surrounds any quarter Moon phase as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we become aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Relationship and material goals tend to clash, causing some pressure or anxiety, but also the will to improve.

The Sun harmonizes with Pallas and Vesta today, however, helping us channel our energies constructively. We can experience a stronger desire to seek out meaning and purpose, as well as mental stimulation. We see important patterns, and we’re incredibly motivated to solve problems. These transits encourage us to dedicate ourselves to a special project or cause. As well, the Capricorn Moon brings our responsibilities to mind.

The Moon is void from 1:45 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 5:56 AM EDT.

SEPTEMBER 30

The Moon spends the day in the sign of Capricorn, and we’re in a strong position to consider our long-term or professional goals, ambitions, responsibilities, and performance. The Sun is parallel to Saturn, reinforcing a responsible and serious theme. We’re measured and moderate in our approach today. The Moon’s trine to Venus this morning encourages taking practical steps towards resolving problems and enjoying the process. Even so, there can be some disconnect between our feelings and our intellect with the Moon’s square to Mercury tonight. Minor disagreements, mainly concerning sensitivity to feelings, are more likely to occur now. It can be challenging to express what we intend.

OCTOBER 1

Mercury forms a square to Jupiter today, and we need room to explore and create, visualize new solutions to problems, and express ourselves freely. However, we are inclined to exaggerate or miss the bigger point. We should be mindful of a strong tendency to overstate or overestimate in our pursuit of meaning. Mental anxiety could manifest as we can swing from blind faith to doubt, making it difficult to make good, practical choices. We might also watch for scattering our energies or taking on too many activities at once–we could be looking so far ahead that we forget the important details or disclaimers. We might waste our time on inconsequential matters. The Moon continues its transit of Capricorn until 3:52 PM EDT, when it moves into Aquarius.

The Moon is void from 11:34 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 3:52 PM EDT.

OCTOBER 2

OCTOBER 3

The Moon is void from 2:15 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Pisces at 10:07 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Sagittarius

MoonSagittarius The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don’t want to plan ahead, and prefer to “wing it”.

The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve “winging it”, travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.

When the Moon is in Capricorn

MoonCapricorn We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don’t want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence–even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.

The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.

When the Moon is in Aquarius

MoonAquarius Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.

The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.

When the Moon is in Pisces

MoonPisces We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It’s a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.

The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

Upcoming Weeks: Calendars

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):

Sun in Libra Meeting yourself in another person is the keynote of a new cycle which begins for you now. Relationships – romantic, business, social – are the arena where this drama is played out. In coming to know the other person, forging ties that bind two people, you come to a better understanding of yourself. It’s easy in theory, but it’s only in practice that it comes to mean anything real – so practice until you get it right!

Mercury in Libra A new cycle begins for you, signaling a greater than usual interest in relationships, social connections, and the arts – on a more intellectual level than in the past, most likely. Seeing both sides of an issue, and figuring out resolutions to opposing views: these things take on more importance in your life.

Venus in Virgo If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn’t you feel guilty about it: that’s what it’s like now. A loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.

Mars in Scorpio Tear it down and build it up again, reach in and pluck out the offending element: that’s what the new cycle you have entered is like. Power becomes a compelling idea, perhaps even an aphrodisiac – and you’ve got a stronger than usual supply of it now. Use it, don’t abuse it – or you might find that it’s a two-edged sword!

Jupiter in Cancer Taking care of yourself and all that’s yours becomes a high priority in your life now. Security, setting down roots, establishing your ties with the past: these things are among the articles of faith that guide you. This is often a sign of growth in all things connected with family and property (such as real estate).

Saturn in Pisces Making peace with the past, coming to terms with karmic debts: these are some of the issues that confront you as a new phase begins in your life. Failure to face these things can cause setbacks and put obstacles in your path. Learn to look beyond the narrowly personal and selfish or you’ll get in over your head.

Uranus in Gemini New ideas, new input, and new ways of exchanging these things with others – all these and more become increasingly important factor in your life now, as you enter into a new phase. This is a period of enhanced mental activity, a nonstop stream of consciousness, of trying out new concepts and perspectives.

Neptune in Aries The frontier spirit is alive and well as a new cycle dawns in your life. Independence and originality take on a kind of primal importance for you; you tend to put these qualities on a pedestal, above all else. Fresh starts, new possibilities … these are the visions that light a spark in your soul. But what of the weak, the ones who aren’t free, the ones who get left behind?

Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.
