Vikshepa (Ecliptic Latitude) – The Hidden Dimension in Astrology

Reaching out to practicing vedic astrologers. We feel most astrologers ignore Ecliptic Latitude (β), but it quietly shapes planetary influence. While longitude dominates Jyotish, Vikshepa (विक्षेप) reveals how far a planet deviates from the ecliptic, subtly altering strength and effects.

Key Insights:
Rahu-Ketu: A high-latitude Rahu (|β| > 4°) intensifies hidden karmic debts, while a low-latitude Rahu (|β| < 1°) shakes up material life.
Drishti (Aspects): High-β planets may weaken or distort their aspects. A high-latitude Jupiter might not bless as strongly.
Dasha Effects: A planet’s Mahadasha with extreme β could bring delayed, internalized, or distorted results.
Paranormal Sensitivity: High-β Ketu is linked to siddhis and astral experiences. High-β Moon enhances intuition but may bring emotional instability.
Classical texts like Surya Siddhanta and Varahamihira have references at these effects, but modern astrology largely ignores them. Advanced astronomical factors need to be studied for a deeper, more precise analysis
Are you ready to explore what your planetary Vikshepa reveals? Are you ready for advanced astrology only seen in times of Varahaihira?

As a background, if you are using some of the typical vedic astrology software, you are missing the true detail upon which ancient jyotish was based. That is why we built our own system to mimic the true surya sidhhanta methods using NASA data. So yes in true sense rahu / ketu DO NOT proceed with constant speed (Gati)

There are two ways to compute Rahu and Ketu:

  1. Mean Node Method (सामान्य चंद्र बिंदु)

• This method assumes Rahu-Ketu move smoothly along the ecliptic.

Always has β = 0° (purely mathematical intersection points).

2. True Node Method (सत्य चंद्र बिंदु)

• This considers the Moon’s actual orbit, which is slightly irregular due to the Sun’s gravitational pull.

• This causes Rahu-Ketu to have small deviations from the ecliptic (β ≠ 0°).

• The deviation is small but can cause nodes to deviate.

We have compiled hundreds of thousands of charts of notable people and are studying these effects – lagna360.com/resources/natal

What do you think? Are you incorporating Ecliptic Latitude in your practice?
