As far as you delineation goes, I agree. With the sidenote that somehow the connection seems one of feelings, emotions because it are Sun and Moon showing up in the aspect. Strong-ish Moon, weak-ish Sun, Moon on her 5th house cusp, so maybe leaning towards the step before a relationship, dating, romance, fun things.
The receptions however are not with those but with the main significators.
You both may well be of the same mind and feeling, the aspect and receptions ‘seperated’, aligning then with reality?
That ‘reality’ picture is like 2 people, living in 2 countries apart from each other. Would this be then a distance relationship or one of you travelling, then ultimately moving?
That in itself could also fuel the ‘doubts’ shown with both people.
There is the idea that jumping from zero to a relationship is skipping the step of dating, fun things, romance.
His ‘mind’ seems to agree with the idea of dating; seeing the Sun aspect to Mars, his 5th house ruler. Both have some weakness. the Sun peregrine, Mars in it’s fall.
Maybe those weaknesses line up with the detrimentation of Jupiter you mentioned? The doubts you describe could be there in the detrimentation, the 12th from the seventh could indicate the communication going through the internet. He seems to maybe share some doubts, coming across as being shy or holding back.
Not too put you of but also keeping it real is the idea of a less happy view, it could be he is dating someone, has not told you about it and he’s not too happy about his dating.
It’s hard/impossible (?) too tell if this Mars in his 1st house is you or someone else.
I think it all lines up with Mercury (his significator) going retrograde just minutes before conjuncting Venus (your 5th ruler and ruling relationships in general). Both options fit that idea. They will conjunct at some point in the future, there is the Moon, Sun Sextile.
So maybe just ask? In one way or another I mean, one just bluntly asks or brings the subject of dating to the table, someone else would go with small hints and giving openings. There is that strong 3rd house activity, hinting towards communication being key, getting your self out of the doubtful 6th house by showing power (Leo intercepted, Sun in the 3rd could says that too)
